I never had any to begin with...you should see my discharge papers :biggrin_2552:

Something about a complete disregard for authority....:biggrin_25511:

But I did read the article last year. It was very revealing about how drivers who had been out for extended periods of time interacted with family, friends, and co-workers. Once they finally took some time of.

Drivers begin to loss prospective after awhile. And neglect the very people they are trying to support. All the while they spend their time argueing about how supportive of their family, they really are.

I actully met a driver who had been away from his wife and kids for 13 months....never went home during that period. It was sad to say the least.

While Child Support may = $$$$$

Real support means something else entirely.

And while I may disagree with your "union" post. I'm fully behind you guys and gals that get home to your families every night. It means so much more than the money.

As many within this industry will learn as time goes by.

What about those of us who never had social skills?
does that mean we are especially suited to be truckers?

You #### skippy....as a matter of fact. You're over qualified.

Unfortunately, you will have to learn some. It's important that you remain friendly to the shippers and receivers at all times...unless they draw first blood. Then all bets are off.

    LOL.... don't worry, danc694u-
I learned long ago, the interesting skill
of being able to smile and chat with someone
even when my tongue yearns to taste their blood.

learned it in a union shop, of course :yes2557:

You're right .... there was no 34 hour reset back then and it was 70 hours .... 8 hrs sleep, 10 hrs drive. This is on the east coast back then: 10x60mph = 660 miles. You can legally drive in a 24 hr period 16 hrs. 16 hrs x 55mph = 880 miles per day. So back then in a 70 hour week you can legally drive 4200 miles IF you worked with a company that had the freight to keep you going. Back then they didn't have a time period. So what you did was you pick up your load and you run with it. And you get there when you get there to deliver it.

Now or TODAY, you have a time period. And you have to be there on time where you deliver. You can only work up to 14 hours a day BUT you can only drive 11 hrs in a day. In a 24 hour period, you drive 11 hours which leaves 13 hrs. You have your 10 hours sleep which leaves you with 3 hours which you can drive until midnight. Then you have to shut down, sleep for 10 then start all over again. There is no reason why you cannot legally run 4200 miles per week in your logs that is again IF you work with a company that has the freight.

I suppose, then, my question is WHY would you want to run 4200 miles?

So, danc694, if it is so terrible, why not get off the road and find something to do that would be more enjoyable? Why continue if it makes your life so miserable? Just wondering.

I would think maybe it's the driver's preferrence???? Or whether they are a safe driver??? I'm learning more and more about this industry every day.

Back then I was running 4200 miles because I was able to and I worked for a company who had the freight. I'm really comfortable driving 2300 to 3200 miles per week. The only reason why I used the figure 4200 miles per week is because it was mentioned that YOU CAN'T run 4200 miles per week legally on one log when I did. And I didn't LIE on my logs. And I value MY REST TIME. I don't drive for extended periods of time until I'm exhausted and then "finagle" my log book to show that I've had my rest. And if you ran 3 log books back then you weren't getting the rest you needed which leads to accidents. :yes2557::yes2557:
