I'd like to find an old stock, but new, Wilson 5000, for a roof mount application. Wonder if there are any left out there?

I can't answer the question, but I will note that I bought what I presume is a new-stock Wilson 500 a few months ago. It's a mag-mount with a stinger that came from the factory as long as my Wilson 1000 (and, I believe the 5000s at 62.5 inches) but it tuned at about 55 inches on the roof of my highway-traveling Mazda3. I guess it's cheaper to supply one stinger for several models and let the consumer cut the difference.

My little 500 tuned to 1.1s and 1.2s and reaches and receives quite well. I know there are detractors of the modern Wilsons for perceived bad quality control, but I've had no problems with my two modern Wilsons at all.

One thing I have done to assure no water gets in the base: I used some RTV silicone that is intended for such things as differential sealant. I applied it where the stinger enters the top of the base and where the coax enters the bottom of the base. This is intended to avoid the criticism I've seen about a few mag-mount Wilsons having suffered from water intrusion and subsequent rusted coils. As I noted, I've had no problems at all with mine.

I've got about 4 1000s, thru the roof type, and a new coax and mount, but the coax on the 5000 is a little better and antenna is supposed to be better, depending on who you believe, so I thought I'd go with a new one if I can find one. If not, I'll just use one of the 1000s. I've never had any problem running my little RM Italy 300 thru a 1000. Not sure how long they would last if I step up to the TS 500 though.

    Mike,
You would like the 5000. That is all I used with my set-up. I am going to get a Sirio though when I put everything in the new truck.
