ok i will try to explain this the way i was explained, if you come to jb with your own truck you get 65% of what the load pays, and if you come to jb to lease a truck then you get 61% of the load. now they say the difference is that the owner operator (guy who brought his truck to jb) has to pay for his own plates, permits, tolls and all that good little stuff. now as a lease driver jb pays for all of that (supppose too). but like i always shoot the truth to everyone, as much as jb makes off these loads and if their telling you the truth on what these loads are paying (which basically everyone knows they aint) i say somewhere in the mix i am paying for everything just like a true owner operator is paying. all companys will try to make more money off their drivers weither it's being a lease or company driver.... but i am doing ok doing this so i have a few small complaints but i am overall doing pretty good for myself. i try to take a bad situation and turn it into a positive.... if you look for the bad in anything or any situation you can find it but if you are always looking for the good and the right then you can almost certainly find that situation. their is a reason for everything that we do in life. like i said i try to shoot straight good or bad, right or wrong i tell the truth either way. thanks for reading everyone

Its nice to read about someone with such a positive attitude, good luck to you and be safe..
Baack, panhandlepat and runion25 Thank this. -
If you don't mind me asking what are the fixed expenses per week? (payment, Insurance and such) Also what kind of fuel mileage do you get and how fast do you usually run?
-
no problem i dont mind sharing this information at all.
truck payment= $278.50 2005 frieghtliner double bunk with 1000 watt inverter
insurance= $52.00 a week
quail comm= 6.50 a week
matienance = .10 a mile ( but no matter what happens i dont have to worry about it. so if my motor falls out of the truck they replace it and fix it and no cost outta my pocket.) but .10 a mile is high but i dont run alot of miles.
fuel tax= .01 a mile i have not had to pay anything outta pocket yet for this.
and thats about it other than fuel.
fuel mileage, well it all depends but i have an average of 6.5 mpg and i usually run around 60 mph. but jb hunts freight is still "goverened" around 45 mph to 50 mpg so no reason to get out their and hot dog the truck and run 75 mph when your fule mileage is gonna go down.
i went through orientation with a bunch of good guys and i can sit here and tell you that i think me and one other guy is left so i know how real it is about people coming and going.
Baack Thanks this. -
sorry forgot one thing, they also take out $100.00 a week for 36 weeks for an escrow. just in case you quit and they have to recover the truck, and what not.
again shoot it straight not matter what right or wrong, good or bad -
Do they not offer a mileage pay rate?
-
ow yeah they offer mileage pay but since u asked i guess u havent worked for jb or havent been here for a while cause anyone knows that jb does not really have the miles to run. right now pay is going for .90 cents a mile and fuel surcharge is .21 cents a mile. thats makes a total of around$1.11 a mile which if you run a 2000 mile week ( thats average here) if you lucky than thats only $2200.00 a week. now i ran 1700 miles this week and made $2600 roughly. but sometimes you get cheap freight but it all depends on you what your willing to take and where to take it.
so if you do the math you can decide which is better
shoot it straight, right or wrong good or bad. shoot it straight -
Do you have to pickup or drop loads at rail yards a lot?
-
no sir i dont do rail yards....... it takes higher up for them to sign off on me to go to rail yards. i was never "traiined" to do rail yards so i dont care much for them but on the other end i dont know much about them. from what i understand their are some pretty good paying loads on their.? will have to do a little more back ground check on that .....

ok everyone, here is a little rumor if anyone is interested in knowing. i was talking to a guy that is a company driver here in lowell,ar and was interested in doing a lease with jb hunt. i told him to call corporate which he did, ( now this is just hear say ) and they informed him that jb was not leasing trucks at this time.? asked my f/m about it today and he said he didnt know.? now another few little rumor's that are going around ( cant confirm any of this so its just hear say so take nothing to heart ), with our lease truck's going in for B-service their suppose to start turning them down to around 62-65 mph and the company trucks are going to be going to around 60 mph and below. ( now liike i said this is all rumor but with some of the changes that i have been seeing since i've been here it would not suprise me one bit ) And another little rumor thats going around ( this is at more than one terminal ) jb hunt is suppose to be taking around 500 truck's off the road and turning every company driver into intermodal, dedicated or regional.? Now like i said everyone i aint trying to spread rumors or lies but i am hearing this from more than one terminal and their all saying the same thing.
I have noticed on their website that i looked up west virginia and noticed that their not even hiring company drivers outta their right now.? i know west virginia has bad rarely no freight coming in or out but with freight starting to slow down than i am guessing that their are some big changes about to be made.
like i said everyone this is all just rumor's and my and may not be true but as things progress orgo down hill i will keep everyone informed of the situation here at ole jb. so far as of now i am still here and still running making my money. if they do quit hiring for a little while maybe freight will catch up with their driver base and everyone can keep moving.?
ok everyone keep shooting straight, good or bad, right or wrong keep shooting straightThe Challenger and allnite Thank this.
