You can only buy a true glider if you can prove you have bought and built one in the last 4 years. If you have not you can only buy one from someone who has (Fitzgerald) and they can only buy and produce %75 of there biggest year for 2017. Next year only %50 and so on till they can't buy anymore. And neither can we.
Thinking about buying a glider...

You know, with the types of drivers coming along today, it's probably best they don't build their own truck.

You can as a private person walk into frieghtliner, pete,kw, western star and order a glider to your spec. Because its a replacement part. Not a truck. However the rule is that people like fitz thats running a business of building gliders are limited to the number built.
Tug Toy Thanks this. -
That's not what I was told by 2 diffrent dealers in December of 2016 when I tried to purchase one. I and the dealer had to prove our previous purchase of a glider in the last 4 years to the manufacturer. Both freightliner and kenworth. Didn't try Pete. The freightliner dealer has handled many glider kits but if I couldn't prove my previous purchase of one they wouldn't take the order from me.

I have never heard of previous purchase requirement to order a glider, but I have not built one since 1998.
I cannot imagine why such a requirement would exist, gliders are used to replace old cabs and frames that still have good or rebuilt running gear but the owner is tired of the deprecated wiring, plumbing and rattles; glider purchases by shops to complete for resale is a very recent development.jamespmack Thanks this. -
I just prefer older trucks in general. All I've got is daycab Kenworths and I MUCH prefer the late 90's dash to the new wrap around politically correct no leg room version they've got today! I kill ignition keys with my left knee, only one I haven't had that problem with in a daycab is the Aerocab extended daycab.
I do really like the arm rests on the new door panels though. -
I was under the impression that the current administration has eased up on the restrictions. Just hearsay though.Tug Toy Thanks this.

There is talk recently of getting rid of the law but nothing yet. It was in overdrive magazine a month or two ago I think. There are pictures of Fitzgerald family and trump from early on in this year. I think he even toured the plant?
It's out of the picture for me now as I put a new engine in my truck and is doing good. So I'm not paying close attention any longer. -
There was something that happened Friday that pertained to gliders. Something about the EPA not moving forward on some regulations. I didn’t catch the details but it at least gives gliders more time than they originally had.
