I've not posted because I've been busy. So far there is no sitting at Knight. I'm usually preplanned on my next load before I deliver my current one. No issue getting 3000 miles a week. When I hip home the $$$ suffer but I'm okay with that because I'm ready for the rest. Three months in and I'm really enjoying it here.

Score. After 4 months with Knight on OTR I was offered a dedicated run that has me home most weeknights and weekends off. I have to deal with Atlanta every day but I'm loving it. Knight has opportunities for sure. I don't regret coming on board.

What type of changes will you see now that Swift is acquiring Knight?

I'm afraid you have that backwards, Knight acquired Swift.

It's the exact opposite. Knight has taken control of Swift. This far no changes at all. Totally separate outfits but they do use the combined size of the two companies to get better deals on trucks tires etc.

I was going to sign with Knight originally but went with Werner. I'm talking to Knight again. I'm working on my 7th month off the trainer truck and happy with Werner except my miles are so up and down mostly down. I beg for miles, tell them if I'm going to be ahead of schedule, how much time I'll have left and I just sit. Usually waiting for an empty. Mostly that seems to be a weekend and night dispatch issue.
Also largest inverter allowed is 150 Watts, can't secure bicycle behind cab - I want to stay healthy.
I'm not asking for home time - only every 3-4 weeks.
I'd like to keep up and see if you continue to get those miles. I really love the bonus structure they have too. Is it real? Like attainable?

Look at Contract Freighters (www.cfidrive.com) - You qualify. OTR drivers can earn $0.445 per mile.
Think about folding bicycles. they fit into the sleeper and stay clean that way. Some are also electric, so if you get tired, just use the battery to keep going.

Britton Transport is good and the trucks have APU. Don't know if dry van division is better than reefer division. Contract Freighters is dry van and their drivers seem satisfied working there.

@JourneyintoTrucking Your qualified; they hire new cdl grads.

Get away from the mega carriers...try a small to medium size co that doesn't have to advertise that will treat you like a human being and give you the miles and such...mega co's DON'T care how much you sit because they're not losing anything...they broker so much freight out that the $$$ continues to roll in even if you sit...

Knight is a Terminal based outfit. They don't have centralized dispatch or service centers. Each terminal has their own budget & shop in most cases, dispatching & salesperson. Miles are not a issue for even a half decent driver if you are not lazy or specific on your freight lanes. The challenges at knight are mty trailers & doing pm. Both can be solved with experience. Bonus is attainable but probably only in the .03 a mile range that can be controled by driver. My now girlfriend worked for them for over 8 years & her last full year made around 53k on only 100k miles working 7-10 days out & 2 full days off.
She quit before the merger & now does sales & frieght broker work for a local recycler.
