Teamsters have to get their membership numbers up. So trying to drum up new members with ads like this seems to have started popping up.

Yellow filed bankruptcy and now has a two tier pay rate. Their pension may have some issues, too. Yellow used to be a very good job. Not so much anymore. Just because any company is represented by the Teamsters doesn't mean it's a great job. 10 or 20 years ago, it probably did mean it was a great job. Not anymore.

    JReding and Chinatown Thank this.

I’m sitting 2 hours at a dock watching union workers go on “break” in NJ. No wonder this state is corrupt and broke.

There's probably about 50,000 other companies that work with the teamsters that were not on your list and results will vary by your location.

It's very easy to get a teamster gig.

I think the reason many don't try is because you start at the bottom, no matter what (it's all about seniority, no butt kissing your way to the gravy). And sometimes the pay is very low until you build some seniority (on call on extra board, low hours, etc). You might be stuck at 50k/year for a bit, it can take a while to get to the big bucks.

Also, lets say you have 20 years exp and your company folded. You apply and get a job at a teamster company, but a 21 year old who just got their CDL was hired a day before you. He/she will always be ahead of you, picking loads/routes, picking vacation time, etc.

Youre all equal regardless of age, race, gender .. except for seniority.. you gotta do your time.

So a person with exp is likely going opt for a gig that pays a little more money now, rather than do their time for a much bigger payday down the road.

    Tb0n3 and p608 Thank this.
