What's the deal with the extra space in long hauls?

@TallJoe totally agree with you. I'm not talking about doing anything illegal. I certainly condemn that kind of behavior.
I was just trying to see why the trailer space isn't maximized at all times. As some of you have said depends on the conditions and circumstances. But I think there is a lot of revenue opportunity if those spaces are filled up.

@boredsocial this is one of my points. I think that there's a lot of space out there that could be put to better use. I understand that some loads are kinda important and expensive, as you said, but not all of them are like that. And if there's space left in a not so costly or urgent load, it would benefit a lot of people if you could take advantage of that space.
Not only could Truckers make more money during the same lane (you could transform a not so good load into a decent paying one), but also the small shippers trying to send 8 pallets or less could benefit from this kind of procedure.
And obviously is better than LTL since you don't need all that handling, unloading and loading in different warehouses.
I know that this has been done since many years ago. The point I think I was trying to make is that Shippers/Brokers should be more conscious of available space and if there's a big enough time window, they should let on-the-road consolidation.

This really is stupid, can't believe there are Dispatchers like this... Obviously, this isn't what we're talking about here.

How many true to their word honest wealthy people have you known about? I don’t know of anyone.

It’s not so much about honesty as it is just making a living. The customers know you’re gonna double stack on their freight regardless of what they write on the box as long as you can do it without tearing it up. Throw some plywood ontop and throw that skid up there. Alls well, ends well.

    You'd be surprised....
I had a guy show up for a dedicated, time-critical load with two separate partials on the truck already - this load was a pricey piece of equipment and needed special care, and he shows up with two big crates, and some tarped object (I'm looking at the picture my customer sent me) and then claimed his appointment got pushed back by twelve hours and that he was going to drop those off at 8PM that (Friday) night, before booking it to Houston to get mine delivered on Sunday afternoon. Easily a two day run, to boot...
