MY Crapcadia solution

    Let me start with this. I don't give a #### about the tech, anal, crap pickup driving 60 mile contacts.

    I'm a real driver, since 80, so shove the bull shat right up your arses.

    I only use top shelf radios, coax and antenna's. I'm not done perfecting yet and have have to make some compromises due to product availability. It works 15 miles out front in the mid West and 25 out back.

    I'll be glad to answer questions about the hardware or installation. I'm not asking for any expert opinions.

    I got a better SWR by sliding the bracket out as far as I could from the truck body. The mirror didn't effect it at all.

    To much movement with the mounts out on the ends. I've already broken the ears off 2 mounts from the movement. Those are Hustler 27's on a 3ft all-thread extension. Advanced Electronics in Nashville tuned them using a analyzer that has a graphing LCD screen. It's mostly a Motorola shop not really into CB anymore but I've been reading with them over 30 years so they hooked me up.

    I see common mode current issues as well as RF interference issues.
    Lots of static and noise in the receiver as well as drastically reduced efficiency using those pedestal mounts.

    I think common mode current and RFI issues are all but unavoidable on big trucks. Unless you have an older flat-top Pete with a metal roof and you do a roof mount.

    That being said, out of all the different setups I've used, these continue to be the best:

    And of course, the Hustler QD-27 is just a 102 that's had a big chunk of it replaced with a coil. It's more expensive than a 102. It is a compromise for applications where running a 102 is not practical. On a Crapcadia, it's practical.

    You reduced your common mode current issues by not mounting atop a pole and mounting close to door.

    I had that same mount idea and got about same range.....
    After running a 7ft skip shooter i can double my range and less noise..

    Craig, I ended up putting a 5.5 Francis back on the the passenger side spot mirror bracket...best yet.swr 1.3 across all channels. I'm gonna take your advise and find a PVC pipe to cover antenna so I don't get the sway and break it off.. radio checks are good, 10 to 15 miles.

    Oh yeah, the radio is a stock Tiawan ROC Cobra 29, only peak and tune is modulation turned up and alignment, and everyone says audio is loud and clear. I got lucky about a month ago on eBay and took it to my my radio tech Clays Radio in San Antonio, Tx and he said I got lucky on this one...tuned really well.

    I agree with Volvo. Unfortunately the common mode current becomes an issue when there’s no ground plane under the antenna. Of course using a higher powered radio makes it worse I’m sure. I’m actually surprised that mounting an antenna on a pole is even working for reasons that Rabbi mentioned. But if it’s working for you, that’s all that matters. I guess I shouldn’t complain about this old 2006 Pete I drive, at least the cab & doors are metal.
