Trucking schools have one mission. Teach them enough to get their CDL. Period.

One of the first things my trainer told me was “if I tell you to do something, just do it and ask questions about it after.” I kinda feel for the guy right now. Hopefully he can learn to relax and enjoy the ride.

It'll come. Yesterday was essentially his very first time.

Only 145 miles to do today. I think I'm gonna drive and talk. We'll probably practice backing at the truck stop later.

I've been following your thread since the start... please keep documenting your trainee trials and tribulations. We read so many trainee blogs and get their perspective but we almost never get a trainer's view on the whole process. And with your comical, real, and blunt spin, it ought to make for an interesting and entertaining read!

I did the 145 miles today just to let noob observe. He's seeing where he's overholding the wheel and overcompensating for those little directional shifts, as well as maintaining speed (the reason we didn't make delivery last night). Tomorrow he does his six hours. I'm expecting him to be driving straight in the next couple of days (he was all over the lane yesterday).

Captain, without meaning to step on your toes or tell you how you should train, I simply wish to offer some helpful advice as a former trainer myself.

Something I had noticed with my students is that when they had a problem with lane control and swerving a lot, their eyes were focused on the road directly in front of the truck instead of ahead of the truck. Get him to focus on the traffic and the road a few seconds ahead of you and the swerving will stop. Maybe get him to do some commentary driving so you know what he is looking at.

    Hope that helps.

Lousy stinking rotten miserable day. Started out okay with a movie with The Hot Chick. Should have went back to the bunk right after cause it went downhill fast after that.

I'm going to bed and start over tomorrow.
