I got my cdl a couple of days ago and have been having trouble finding a good company to work for. I have my tanker and doubles and triples endorsement but still cant find the right company to go with. A friend of the family owns a Cement Factory and they would probably hire me if i asked. Would that possibly help me as experience needed later on in the future, driving a cement truck . I see myself staying a long time working for them if they hire me possibly 3-5 years. Saving up and buying my own truck after . But if it doesn't work out that way . Would company's take that as experience ?

    It’s...experience in a Class B truck.

In the construction world, it doesn’t hurt to have that under your belt.

However, Class B experience doesn’t directly transfer to Class A jobs. You’ll be starting at the bottom.

Unless you’re a jack of all trades type, and can quickly prove yourself, it isn’t really going to HELP you with ‘experience’ in the world of tractor trailers.

    b947 Thanks this.

If they haul their own cement and rock products into the plant it might be a way to pick up Class A experience.

Nothing wrong with running mixers either. Some guys make a career out of that.

If you plan on staying in the construction field I would say your exp driving a cement truck will help greatly.Other employers may hire you for hauling a belly or side dump. But for general hauling you'll probably need exp unless you find a company that trains if you plan on staying local.

I would love ataying in the conatruction field As a driver .But I also want to get the most out of my class a I just think that in the future if I would want to become a driver for a specific company I won't have the experience they would ask for

Chances of getting hired to drive a semi without exp is much greater in the construction field and if you play your cards right an employer may help you get your class A.I went from a dump truck t
to side dump with the same company.
