Gotcha. Language was unclear.street beater Thanks this.
-
Think about direction of force, vs direction of restraint. Indirect resists in all directions. Direct only resists in opposite direction of securement
-
Ok.. where do friction mats come into play?
-
Dont ask me! I throw straps not chains....
-
Kinda like securing a bobcat, chain from all 4 corners, pulling the machine in all 4 directions.street beater Thanks this.

If you're still confused, or math impaired, just call 4" straps 5k, take load weight, round up to nearest 5k, and divide, that is the whole 200% vs 100 % thing, doing it that way gets you Waaaaaaay over dot requirements in almost every situation
Btw, if you're hauling a 20 k peice of plate, please use chains and an x-chain setup, a bulkhead or strap will do absolutely nothing if it gets the chance to break inertia, (juggernaut from xmen, same concept)street beater Thanks this. -
coils, and don't confuse the guy/yourself, suffice it to say they count as edge protection, not securement, because by and large that's the truth in practice
-
When you guys are quoting the bible, you are doing so in lawyerspeak. Give it to him in cornbread language.
And explain to him WHY direct only gets 50%WLL of indirect.Nuge31 Thanks this. -
Indirect securement can begin and end on the same side of the trailer.
