Hi guys,
I just bought a Super B Curtain Side and am wondering what the disadvantages are with this set up. For those that are thinking why didn’t I ask before I bought: I found the trailers to be in very good condition and I’m able to strip the curtains and just run the decks if I wanted to. I have other Super B decks so it’s not a huge issue. My thoughts are, for what I paid for them, if the need outweighs the disadvantages I’d leave them the way they are. They’re rated for coils, not that there’s much of that in our neck of the woods, and can’t really see me hauling toilet paper or cereal

Lack of ability to overhang the back end of the lead (or either end if you are permitted for it). Can't load with a crane.
Not sure if there is much else.White Line Fever Thanks this. -
Curtain side or a sliding tarp set up?
Crane loads or unloads, difficulty loading longer pieces, you may have shippers or receivers that can't or won't work with the set up.
Also whatever weight is added by the set up, don't know if that will be an issue for you or not.White Line Fever Thanks this. -
I’m not OTR per say....stay regional mainly and have other decks up to 53, also a trombone. Permitted all around for OD and registered for 63,500kgs. Yes, can see the “not being able to load with a crane” as a definite downfall for sure.

Curtain Side w/ fixed roof by the looks of it.

To me that seems like a very specialized trailer. Does it have vertical supports down the trailer? If so, that makes it hard to load a lot of different types of freight, especially anything long, and even shorter stuff can be extra work that a shipper may not want to deal with.
If it doesn't have supports than it's basically just no full length freight (curtains could get in the way) and no crane loads.
Also it means catching the wind like a van trailer, even when you are empty. Don't know how much heavy wind you get where you are at.
