I will be finishing up CDL training on August 22 and have had JBS as my 1st choice since I started. Talked to Julie and she said to get my application done on line and she will process. Just had a few questions that maybe somebody can help me with.
1. She said that they hardly ever run the northeast.
2. I live in Maryland - Much freight in my area?
3. I want to take my wife with me and she said that would be no problem
I have a son that lives in S. Dakota and hope to have a chance to get
loads near him to visit. With my wife with me I can stay out on the
road longer and do resets or time off near him. - Any problem seen?
4. What type of equipment do you run?
5. Training done as solo or team?
I am really looking forward to starting my career with JBS. I thought
about Roehl for awhile but my instincts tell me to go with my first choice.

As far as your questions....I just completed orientation so this is VERY recent info...
Don't know about the freight situation in MD but you will get home when you need to...They ask that you not only be here for yourself and the money but also for the company and both it's as well as your success....This does NOT mean that you will be treated unfairly, it means that maybe if you schedule your hometime just to be off and another driver needs hometime to get to a funeral, that you understand and help them out by allowing them to give that guy your load and accept another that may put you home a day or two later....I hope you understand the point I am trying to make....you get what you give and they want "professional", "curtious" drivers...They are firing ALL others both in Management and those on the road for not being this way...Again you get what you give...and they work hard to get you home when you ask....
That leads in to your other question....YOU CAN take hometime where ever you want as long as it is somewhat near their lanes of travel...They don't want you driving 400 miles out of route to get somewhere you just "want" to go......Most everywhere is within their lanes but example would be Key West, FL......you're not getting there because you want to go there....
Training is done on "solo" miles but you get "priority" dispatch....They want trainers who "WANT" to train for the good of the trainee, NOT for the good of the trainers wallet.....running "team" training only leads to trainers over-running their trainees and taking advantage of the trainee. If the trainer is only getting "solo" miles he will be more inclined to accept the training position out of "wanting to make the trainee a better driver and not for his own personal gain".
Equipment is Peterbuilt and KW's......All their equipment is leased and Peterbuilts were 3 year leases or 300,000 miles and all NEW KW's are 4 year leases 300,000 miles......I am sitting in a 2009 Pete 387 with a single bunk 75" condo sleeper....ALL KW's are 2012 as far as I know but my Pete only had 170,810 miles on it....Equipment and Refeers are TOP NOTCH!!!!
Goes hand in hand with a top notch company.....

NO, you don't load your own trucks.....
As far as unloading, company frowns on driver unload, but that does NOT mean it may not happen....you will be compensated for it but I don't think it will happen much if at all....but there is always that possibility....
Most is either drop and hook, live load, or LUMPER unload which the company will pay for.....
