Have been dreading going out on the Island, but finally may have to deliver a Sprinter Van out there. Trying to think of an excuse now to have the owner come across the line to N.J.:biggrin_25525:

I heard through the grapevine that rigs are no longer allowed in the downtown area of NY. Is this true? Not that I have any great burning desire to go there anyway...went once when I was young and foolish, and didn't leave anything behind that I need to go back and get.

Hey brink, I cant hit you with a PM yet, but can you tell me what the regional runs are like with swift? is it really like 6 on 1 off, or 6/2 or 7/2? I know nothing definite, if you get this though, let me know :D Thanks

Here's a cute little load I had on last year from Palmer, Mass. to Yonkers, NY. 14'6" wide, couldn't see a thing in the mirrors, and 2 escorts that couldn't see anything either.
The easy way would have been to run right across I-84 westbound, across Ct., down 684 to 287 west, and then to the tollbooth in Yonkers, where you could literally look at the site where this thing was going. Buuut noooooooooooo.......they routed me across 84 to Fishkill, NY, down US 9 to Peekskill, down US 9 straight though all those skinny little villages, and the escort in front lost focus on me and at 4 p.m. in the afternoon he had me in a complete oval, back in Brewster, NY on rt.6. I had to get back on 84 and go west again to exit 13. By then, it was getting too late to keep going, so I dropped it and headed to the Pilot in Newburgh for the evening.
The next morning I had 2 fresh escorts, one in front had a lot of knowledge of the area having grown up in Yonkers. He brought me down through there with a lot less tension than the previous 2 waterheads did, and by noon on Friday, I was empty. Then, it was off to Long Island to load a 980G Cat loader for New Hampshire...That's a story for another thread.

I read somewhere that the length limit for trucks in Manhattan is 55 feet.

Yeah ive heard that 53' trailers are illegal in the city. But I pulled one through there once and had to ask some cops for directions and got a parking ticket but they didnt say anything about the length. All the cops said after I got directions outta there was get outta my city, kinda laughed and said yeah im trying and I wont be back.

    Ick? Awww....I'm hurt. =(

    I love driving through NY!
Ground Zero certainly looks a lot different than it did even a year ago. Even West Avenue looks different these days.

If you do a search on Google for "NYCDOT trucks", the first set of results that comes up has all the info you need about navigating my dear ol' home. ;-)

Found a pdf link under NY DOT that posts max dimensions, weights, routes etc. 53' trailers are allowed on certain hwy's... am thinking this trip out there is going to be a one time deal and never go back in anything bigger than a small car.

Yeah I would never go back into that city with anything bigger than a car. The people there just dont care about big rigs at all and everyones hury hury hury. It took me 45 minutes just to get off the curb into the road, finally after waiting I just threw the truck out there and three cars proceeded to go up on the sidewalk to go around me. They are not friendly to truckers and the city definately is NOT TRUCK FRIENDLY in any bit. I will never go in there for a load or to deliver ever again, not worth my time wasting an entire day to drive 60 to 70 miles.
