I had Members edge rate index. I found it to be nothing more than a pile of rubbish.

You're saying these guys are lying about some of their rates?

Wow this is an old thread. Yeah there's a lot of people critical of some comments I posted about rates in the past. That's why I quit talking numbers a long time ago. The funny part is fuel was almost $3.50 a gallon or more in most parts of the country when I made those comments. I'm also amused that anyone thinks $4.25 a mile on a 500 mile run or $5 a mile on a 350 mile run are far fetched or incredulous. With fuel the way it was there was nothing extraordinary about those kind of numbers and I knew several drivers booking loads like that routinely back then. 2012 was a stellar year in my opinion it was a far better year than 2014 that everyone talks about. 2014 was a year in decline looking at my rates and volume from then and 2015 went over the cliff literally. 2017 is shaping up nicely but not near where I had hoped it would rise.

I can't find them every day but do bag a couple a month. Thanks to you @rollin coal i do know they exist and to take advantage of them when they happen.

Best one this year was 1617 miles for $6.26 loaded mile.

To many guys selling themselves short.

I even got a load a couple weeks ago that was mediocre and after I arrived and saw the #### show that I was about to get entangled in, I called the broker and got double the rate.

Don't say it can't happen, or it won't.

I use the search function religiously. If I'm posting, that means I've looked as much as can and didn't find what I needed. Anyway, yes...I've noticed some posts from those that seem to be in disbelief in regards to rates. It's a shame you've stopped talking numbers. I understand completely and I also understand the throat cutters will use them negatively. That's also a shame because if more knew what to bid on a lane the numbers for all would rise. To me this is crucial information to not cutting my own throat but bid as high as I can at the same time to stay competitive. There's a difference between competition and self destruction it seems.

Well, yes and no. There's always going to be cheap shippers in cheap markets who will foist off cheap freight. The trick is to not work for those guys. I don't, and consequently I don't gank you guys when I'm moving freight. I generally know within a week or two if a potential customer contact is someone I'm going to want to work with. I have a gal that sends out multiple loads per week that I haven't done a single load for, because she has ridiculous expectations, and a posted rate to go with them. Stuff like one pick, five drops, scattered across a wide geographic area and paying sub-$2/mi, which means I'd have to convince someone to take this garbage. I'm not willing to sully my name with that ####.

I'm still in awe at the fact that someone would pull that load for said rate personally. Call me naive, but I feel the ones that would pull that load most likely just don't know any better.

I suspect you're right. She's covered two similar loads already today. I just sit here, shake my head, and press the delete button.
