Let me make sure I'm getting this right, the .80 thousands comes off the hump in the center of the piston leaving a small flat spot? Would you happen to have any pictures of a piston that has had this work done to it?

The 80 thousand I'm not sure on. But yes you grind it out of the bowl and hump.you only are grinding it from 18:1 to 16:1.

Is there any differences between the NXS crankshaft compared to the 6NZ crankshaft? I know the stroke is longer on the NXS crankshaft but is that it?

The rod bearing journals are different. Dont even think! you cant run 6nz rod and pistons on an a-cert crank. It won't work.

LOL...I’m not gonna to try that. I really was wondering if the length of the NXS crankshaft was shorter than the 6NZ crankshaft. Other than that everything is coming together nicely. Here’s a couple of pics of the block and crankshaft after getting everything back from the machine shop and a shot of the pistons after having the bowls cut to lower the compression. I also had them coated.

The a-cert crank has a 6.75 stroke compared to 6nz having a 6.5 stroke. If you really want a monster get an c-18 crank at 7.2 stroke along with the c -18 rod and pistons

If you are still planning on using the liners from your 6nz kits i would highly suggest you check the piston to wall clearance and your piston ring end gap of the one piece steel nxs pistons in them....the one piece steel pistons are gonna require more clearance and probably gonna have to hone the liners to acheive it and the ring end gaps they need.

A used C18 crank is selling for over $7000. To build a C16 I think I could have just bought C16 liners and pistons being that I already have the crank. That C18 is way out of my price range.

The 6NZ and the NXS use the same liner (1979322). The piston rings are different so I had to use the NXS rings, and I went with the heavy haul versions. So basically the short block is an NXS with the bowls of the pistons cut to lower the compression and everything else is from the 6NZ. My only concern now is finding out if I can use the 6NZ harmonic balancer on the NXS. The part numbers are the same but they look a little different.
