Judging from other pics I've seen of Indian trains, that thing will prolly seat 200-250.

My neighbour goes to China annually and takes a 1100 mile train ride that takes around 3 1/2 hours. China is way ahead of the rest of the world in rail service.
pattyj Thanks this. -
I've talked to foreigners that have ridden Indian trains and they all say the people poop right in the floor because they don't want to lose their spot or there's no room to move. They clean themselves with their hands then wipe their hand on the seats, hand rails or whatever in near. They said there is urine swishing around on the floors also. People are killed every day from falling onto the tracks. Buses and trucks are the same.
Raezzor Thanks this. -
I ride Chinese trains pretty often and they're kept clean and the service is perfect.

India is seriously working on the issue of pooping everywhere
From August 2017 National Geographic. Very enlighteningChinatown Thanks this. -
Indian Prime Minister Modi started a program to install toilets in every home. The government installed 10's of thousands in homes and the people won't use them. They said it's nasty to poop inside your house, so they still go outside in public. They said pooping outside gives them a chance to chat with the neighbors at the same time and catch up on the latest village gossip.

I love how the privileged white lady is a photo opportunity here.. She is seen as oblivious, inconvenienced, and maybe non-caring by this fecal matter. That’s what makes the photo amusing. Right? In reality everyone is just walking around it. But it is a social justice moment when she is confronted.

People assigned to a "caste" in India is illegal, but everyone ignores the law and is born into a caste. The Dalit's are the poop cleaners in India.
"All scavengers belong to the lowest caste, "untouchable" (called now Dalit "Broken people"), comprising 180 million people in India, who still experience discrimination and prejudice, and whose task is to clear rubbish and human waste from the streets and open drains outside homes."
"Bindeshwar Pathak of Sulabh International, an Indian NGO promoting the use of inexpensive cheap, squat-type toilets, recalls the rite his grandmother forced him to pass through for touching a low-caste woman in his natal village. "She forced me to swallow cow dung, cow urine, sand and Ganges water to purify myself," said Pathak, born in Uttar Pradesh (northern India)."
