The tile work I've done I thin coated 3/8 concrete board to the floor and then tile.
You know how hard mentally it is to spread thinset and screw concrete board to a hardwood floor.

They make a 1/2" thick hardi backer that would almost eliminate the 1/4" difference (1/2" backer +3/8"-1/2" thick tile). If that's the route he chooses. The 1/2" is generally for walls, since it matches sheet rock better, but there's no reason it can't be used on the floor.4mer trucker, Feedman and SAR Thank this.

Personally, I would just screw them down. There is nothing wrong with gluing it, I just chose not to. I used 1 5/8" construction screws on the first layer (1 x 4's). And 2 1/2" construction screws through the T & G and the 1 x 4's into the floor joists. Construction screws use a torx head that is leaps and bounds better than the phillips head screws.4mer trucker, Feedman and SAR Thank this.

I feel your pain. Our house has oak floors that we were going to try and salvage. There is so much that needs done and so much that is damaged or missing, we're not going to mess with them. It's the 3/4 thick by 1 1/4 wide that you can't get anymore. I need about 10 bundles to fill the edges along the walls and patch in the bad spots. Laminate it is.4mer trucker, wore out, Hurricane69 and 1 other person Thank this.

Thanks! I'm not quite sure what his plans are yet on the tile part.
He is using the construction screws with the torx head.4mer trucker and 1951 ford Thank this. -
I didn't realize they made those screws until I sent my son to the lumber yard. He came back with those. I won't buy phillips heads if I can avoid it. If they only made a torx sheet rock screw....4mer trucker, wore out and SAR Thank this.

They are nice, almost no slip on them and you have better control of it.4mer trucker, wore out and 1951 ford Thank this.

Especially when working off a ladder or at a bad angle where you can't get a straight push on it.4mer trucker, wore out, Hurricane69 and 1 other person Thank this.

That's what mine is downstairs. Looks like the old gym floors. Upstairs is beautiful four inch.... It's covered with carpet. I moved some walls around and frankly little kids and hardwood means doctor bills. Still didn't stop mine...sis pushed my youngest boy of the bed and broke his arm.
We figured it out two days later. Even the doctor said I don't think it's broken. He was still using it playing. Yep....broke in two places. That boy cost me alot of money. Low threshhould for pain and full throttle.
After both bones broken in his forearm and we were searching for a pulse after I told him he had to get around the end.....and him breaking his collar bone but stopped to pick up his shoe....but he got the first down.....budda your writing checks dad can't cash.
Well that got sidetracked .......moral of the the story..... All my hardwood floors are covered up.4mer trucker, wore out, SAR and 2 others Thank this. -
We decided to widen the door between the kitchen and back porch from 32" to 36". I held off as long as I could since a special order door for a 2 x 6 wall is all I could find. As we were looking at doors to order, I came across a jamb extension kit that goes on a regular door. Best $27 I ever spent on a door. Took about an hour to install it. Tomorrow afternoon, I'll install the door.
4mer trucker, Feedman, wore out and 1 other person Thank this.
