Really? Yes, every load I pull MUST be profitable. Why else do it? What kind of idiot would voluntarily work at a loss?
Landstar is getting cheap.

@Pepper24
General freight, home every nite, all within 250 miles of home.
Tell me more about how I need to "stay loaded". Clearly it's me that's ####ing up. -

Nope. If I took a backhaul I would be late on the following days Load and lost revenue.
That's what's important to consider about taking a cheap backhaul- I'm sure your numbers reflect exactly that.BoostedTeg, spyder7723, gokiddogo and 1 other person Thank this. -
We're not comparing apples to apples here.
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
People who haul cheap on the headhaul, have to get a backhaul so their average rate per mile comes to an acceptable level; those that haul for healthier rates in the first place don't have to sweat a backhaul. The average is already high enough to be sustainable.
"I need to stay loaded to be profitable!"

I had a guy that wanted me to do dedicated, 3 runs a week, until he finally figured out why a mega gave him that particular area, there is 0, and I mean 0 coming back, 500 miles, and he will go broke paying $4 mile for a return empty run.
You obviously found someone that will pay you top dige for coming back empty. That's not available to most O/O.
It does happen. And it does come along, usually when the guy that is doing it F it up, or retires.
But driving for $0 or driving for a $1.40 is an easy choice.
