I would avoid Werner and CRST like the plague. I've talked with many drivers who've worked for these two companies and haven't heard any postives but a boatload of negatives. CRST requires new drivers to team for the first 6 months (or is it a year?). I doubt you want to team with a total stranger.

I can comment about TA. I started with them as my first company out of CDL school. They are an excellent starter company. Their student driver orientation is very good and you'll learn more in 5 days there than you did in CDL school. They do have high standards though. They want your logs to be completed correctly, legally and in prompt fashion. They're big into safety as well as low idle percentage. But if you want to earn decent money as a new driver and are willing to run you can do well there. I averaged over 3000 miles a week in the 9 months I was there and made an average of $975/ week. But then again I'm a runner and am very efficient with my time.

Regardless of where you go alot of your success or failure depends on you. Your attitude, your work ethic and your communication with your dispatcher are the keys to doing well. If you're a whiner and blame others, don't follow proper procedures or run illegally you're doomed to fail.

I don't know you or anyone else on this board but I can say trucking as a whole has it's problems no matter who you drive for. Bottom line I'd say TA is not perfect but they are a good choice, especially for a student driver.

They ended up having to give me a different trainer who was mental, long story, but the company was still good, I have to say. I left it for my own reasons, nothing to do with their treatment of me, they were more than fair. I would recommend Transport America as a company for a newbie.

The clan crest is Ferguson, I am not one, just used it on my hat when I was in a pipe band in Phoenix. I also have it tattooed on my wrist. It means, "Sweeter with Adversity".

I am leased on to Transport America. I've been here almost 2 years. I'm not going to say that they are the greatest company to be at but as far as any of them go they are not the worst. If you really want to come here, stay on them. Keep calling and calling. They do tend to forget things in the office up in Mn. You will get training here and good hometime. Stay away from Schnieder, I was there almost a year and that was 323 days too long. The best way to find out if a company is any good is to ask drivers. At random pick out drivers at the truck stops and ask them questions about the company that you are interested in. You will here good and bad things, then weigh them out. But as far as Transport America goes, we still have some drivers here from when the comapny 1st started, that tells you something. Good Luck
