    Hey guys,
Got a call from a Recruiter yesterday, says he pushed my application through and I’m approved.

I told him I won’t be available to be shipped out until after Thanksgiving (already made travel plans) so he’s going to call me sometime next week to set that up.

Just curious on what to bring with me? I have plenty of money, doing this trucking gig is a big pay cut for me. But I got laid off and wanted to do something different. So I’m not worried about being paid while obtaining my CDL since I have unemployment and savings coming in.

Also what kind of trucks will I be in? (Automatic or manual?) I’m already passed my CDL test once two years ago, but since I was making good money it slipped my mind to make my permit into a CDL license so it passed the 30day deadline. Other then that I’ve been in and around trucks my entire adulthood so far. I’m 28.

Would it be a good idea to obtain my CDL permit from the state of Massachusetts first? Or do it in Missouri during training? Also what kind of hometime Can I expect living in Massachusetts? My recruiter said I’ll be a regional driver in this area.

Thanks guys looking forward to it!

Blankets, pillows, they give you a 0% interest loan a week for food, be frugal and it will be fine. Clothes for 2 weeks. Phone, which should be obvious, but hey, some people. Laptop if you have one so you are not bored out of your mind. Coat, couple hoodies, gloves, BOOTS, and 1 pair of shoes for driving. Anything else you might need. But other than blanket and pillows, everything should be able to fit into 2 totes. No more than 2 totes of stuff.

You will obtain your Class A permit in Missouri. If you obtain one from Mass. You will still have to retake the test in Missouri, and gain a permit from there.
I could bring enough stuff that there won't be room for the trainer. Doh! :violent1:

Shower shoes, clothes for both warm and cold climates, sleeping bag, blankets, pillow. Enough clothes for a minimum of two week's. All of your personal documents( birth certificate, social security card, driver license etc.)

A book, tablet/laptop for the spare downtime you'll have when not practicing backing or pretrip.

I would wait to get your permit in Missiouri or your end up paying for it twice.

Are you going reefer, tanker or flatbed?

You will more than likely be training in a automatic, unless you're lucky to get an instructor with a manual still. If you train in an automatic you and your instructor will get a pad truck to practice shifting etc as they still require you to test out(get your cdl) in a manual.

Home time can be kind of difficult while in training that's something you'll have to discuss with your instructor and fleet manager. Living in the NE I know reefer has a Wal-Mart dedicated account in Maine and I believe there is a NE regional route as well.

If you have any other questions or if I have missed something don't hesitate to ask there's lots of us here who have been with PRIME for a while now who don't mind helping out and there's also a few instructors/trainers like my self also on here.

I would say this what ever you bring with you be prepared to have it at the foot of your bunk when sleeping. There's not a lot of storage space for two people on a truck.

Thanks for the shower shoe reminder! I would of forgot those! I’m debating on going to the Tanker division. I’ve read good things about it and I like doing hands on work so I feel it be a good fit for me. Plus a few years down the road I was to haul fuel locally so it be good experience.

How’s the test in MO? I took and passed the test here in Massachusetts. The testing here is freaking brutal man! Don’t think it could get much harder so I’m sure my instructor will be please not having a complete newbie with him! (Still kicking myself for not making my permit into a license)

I have just read pages 1-50...and then I jumped to page 241.
I'm surprised to see that it is now required to get your CDL permit in Missouri.
I've seen YouTube videos (and of course, read the first 50 pages of this thread)...and it's been said you can get your CDL permit before arriving at Prime Inc.

When did this change occur? It had to be rather recent!

As I understand. It has to do with the State of Missouri. Wanting the money?
    Salt Lake hasn’t changed.

Became effective as of January, last year, statewide.

Thank the State of MO for that.
