What makes you think it's the oil cooler? I don't have oil in my coolant and I sure don't have coolant in the oil and I am not losing any coolant. What pointed you in that direction?

Off the top of my head, the oil coolers fail over time, they do not leak they just sludge up... Where are you located?

I am in Venus, TX. But my oil temp is only 10-15 degrees higher than my coolant temp and that is very normal. I already checked on that one with a Volvo mechanic. I change my oil every 12,000 to 15,000 mile MAX.

But let's assume that you are correct. How would sludge in my oil cooler affect my upper radiator hose and make it collapse in cold weather?

That old of a motor and you have a bump in oil temp it is one of two things, the oil temp sending unit or the oil cooler, which is a common issue on the 870. So, I naturally went to the oil cooler. it is in your water jacket and is causing temp disruptions with the coolant... Just guessing, but want through all of this with my 871 and a bad head, I would call Gearhead at the number I gave you above. I have a buddy heading there next week to fix his truck, he is in VA... You will be in good hands, and he can more than likely get you an answer. I would also head over to Rawze.com and get signed up. If you own a Cummins, you will want to be a member. Trust me on that.

    khalidjamal123 Thanks this.

The coolant hose is normal for a Cummins . My old 07 Cummins 535 did same thing. And I google searched images of isx engines and most of them had that sucked in look. I never worried about it.
