Maybe I should have specified that most radios will splatter when you put a signal that wide into a stock radio.
-
"If" the radio can even modulate it.
The 86 is particularly broad and does splatter a little more with the Ranger mic than with my old RK56, or the 138's stock mic. It's still not bad, and it sounds real good with that mic.
In fact, Radio Man said, and I quote, "your voice is like, perfect, there's no echo or distortion at all, it sounds like you're talking on the phone with me, don't change it"rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I'm not a "radio guy", either: I don't get into the technical details. I just want something that works well at a cheap price. What about the Cobra HG M77? I got mine a couple years ago to replace a stock mic, and everyone I talked to noticed the difference right away, clear and loud. You can get it for $30 or less on Amazon (I paid about $16).

I had my General tuned up and different finals put in. She would walk and talk. The Superstar will really walk and talk as i just had her in the shop.shogun Thanks this.

Mics are like anything in life. It is a personal preference. In early days it was whatever worked good for themJReding Thanks this.

I had the SRA 198 on my old cobra 29 when I took it in for a tune and alignment, and I'm guessing if there were any splatter it would of showed on the scope?

Did the tech doing the work have an oscilloscope to test it with? Or did he use a spectrum analyzer instead?Last edited: Nov 19, 2017

Both are good mics for a truck. The old Turner Telex RK56 is my favorite sounding mic, but these rough lease roads always had the wires in the cord coming loose. Same with the Astatics.
The SRA198's are holding up well so far. They sound good too. You can find em new on eBay for around $25 shipped.
