A lot of that depends, are you talking out of a terminal and then back empty or are talking about running a certain lane with reg. customers or free lancing all over?

We had a 8 car, (but in reality most times it was a 7) I always shot for at least 45 cpm min. that put me well 7 car load.jpg over the 3.00 pm line and usually that was return trip rate, out bound much was better. BUT this was 2 years ago when rates were better.

We did do some terminal work on short runs with it that was over 5.00 pm but of course you were empty back, so not really that good.

I will give you one word of advice about free lancing cost to coast, make real sure that your east to west trip pays VERY well, because you never know what you will get outta the west coast, and of course your expenses out there are high as well.

I do at least 12k round trip. If you go to Oregon/ Washington it's going to be more like 6 car load. No flips/ extension s in Oregon and Washington is only 56ft long and that's with the permit for 3 extra ft. They don't hesitate to walk out of the scale house with tape measure in hand, or check your paperwork thoroughly.

Hey) I do not calculate it myself long ago.) I use the software and all the things are done automatically. The one I use is CarShipIO. they have awesome reports with expenses, revenues and all is calculated automatically after you just add your load's details.
