Last winter (2007-2008 ) was definitely a nasty one in the mid-west. Those three pics remind me of some of the stuff I saw here in Wisconsin too.

It was stop and go, mostly stop traffic. Other wise I wouldn't have taken those pictures. One guy got stuck on a hill covered in snow and ice. Blocked a lane and then on top of that the Iowa state patrol ended up giving him a ticket for obstruction of traffic. It was like that for 80 miles.

The nice Iowa State Patrol and their common sense.

That state has a high incidence of black ice each year.

Had a mess like that here in Wisconsin on I90 between Janesville and Madison on the WB side. Started by that old scale house near the top of the hill. The back up ended up being at least 20 miles long, both lanes for around 19 hours. The county responsible for that stretch of road didn't do a very good job keeping it passable. The county and the state took some serious abuse over that one.

Yeah, but I think the one he described in Iowa was moving.:yes2557:

I remember the parking lot last year. Fond memories of 28 hours in the TA truck stop.

Yep, I remember that discussion! You're right, at least they were sort of moving there in IA! Better than the Wisconsin mess. I'm not sure what to expect this winter. We have had some flurries and snow showers, but nothing on the ground at this time here in southern WI. We are suppose to get some flurries and snow showers on Monday, but then it's suppose to be sunny and above freezing the rest of the week. With a start like this, I'm afraid of what we have coming our way later!

    I know.

I have to be in Minnesota, just south of the twin cities on Monday. Been up there each week for the last three.

Sounds like fun! My hubby was glad to hear that the weather is going to be decent here next week, as he's due home on Weds. He's been playing around out in WV, VA, MD and PA the last several days, and was kind enough to send me a picture message of the snow at one of the places he was sitting! Just what I wanted to see - NOT!

I saw in another thread today that it is snowing in IA and up to Albert Lea right now. Think Eskimo was mentioning it.

I saw that too. It is the route I drive. Checked the weather and it was getting warmer and the radar was clearing. Tomorrow when I am going through there is to be around 46.
