No need to go that crazy unless you're tightening up the nuts on the back beam of Neway air suspensions. Standard truck lug nuts you can put the required 500 ft-lbs on them no problem with a 3/4" drive torque wrench.

i have seen so-called mechanics just hold the impact wrench on lug nuts, not all will be to a proper torque. a real mechanic will have the tools needed for a professional job. all others are hacks.

A one inch drive torque wrench can be bought for $550 from Walmart. It has the preset function, and is about 4 feet long.
I don’t think you need to rush out and buy one....let the mechanics use it. -
That would be the best thing to happen to those Swift and CRE trucks mentioned above.
buddyd157, Txdriver77 and TravR1 Thank this. -
Yep. Im a buck sixty dripping wet and have no problem getting 500lbs on a torque wrench.buddyd157 Thanks this.

I see trucks with those aero covers on their drives. Wonder how often those lugs get checked. Probably be able to hear a lug nut rattling around in there.
-
Oh come on.
There's ten of them on there... how many do you really need?

I have never kicked a wheel. Don’t want to hurt my foot. Besides, your foot can’t tell the difference between 105 psi and 75 psi.
In cdl school you learn how to do a pre-trip inspection of the truck. About 200 items were covered by my school. Dot examiner may only want about 100 items checked. Pre-trip inspection takes about 15 minutes for an experienced driver.
Pre-trip inspections protect the driver. If a driver is willing to take the fault for another drivers damage, then so be it.Dan.S Thanks this. -
I don't think I'ver ever seen a driver pretripping his lug nuts with a torque wrench. If I did see one I'd probably wonder about his total grasp of the situation. Not to mention his sanity.
AModelCat and Blackshack46 Thank this. -
What about a blow torch?
