Truck going in the shop when home too.
This oil consumption issue has gotten progressively worse and last gallon added was at 1500 miles and down almost a gallon again at 1500 miles .
Runs great , no smoke , mpg 6.9 to 7.3 over 3000 mile periods .
Word from Cummins is crankcase breather filter plugged forcing oil down thru the valve guides .
So we will try that and see what happens .
I tend to believe it cause it's pushing some oil out around the filler cap too.

Sounds like that might be the problem, it doesn't sound like it's time for a rebuild.

    Shock Therapy Thanks this.

Not trying to be a ######## but have you tried not adding that gallon? Ive seen more than one engine that would run a gallon low for a long time.

Shock Therapy and bzinger Thank this.

No worries tony ,...it doesent level off .
Started at 7k on a gallon and down to 1500 now .
Cummins has updated the breather filters to a lifetime version and mine is probably plugged ...my non lifetime filter has 95k on it .

Shock Therapy and tony97905 Thank this.

Well I hit Omaha today earlier than planned and the shop pulled me right in and I watched my buddy Jeremiah pull the crankcase filter housing off as about half a quart of oil poured out of it he said yeah this sob is completely plugged ...think we found the problem .
The updated version is just a flat plate with a pressure relief valve in it .
Cummins apparently knew they had a problem .

Wel see where the oil consumption goes now tho everyone is confident problem was there .
When I hit the shop today it had used 2 gallons in 2100 miles .
Shop is confident on the crankcase filter as the oil consumption has increased so fast along with filter housing full of oil .
Leave Saturday for LA and we shall see .
