I hear where you're comin from Pro...I think pretty much anyone could recognize that nothing was meant by your statement. Hell even in the end you basically said it was sad to see her go and you never got to say goodbye. I think this is one of those instances where a woman just jumped all over you because, like most women do, they interpretted what you said completely different from what was meant.
-
that's right, i did say: "i miss her, and i never got to say "good-bye, and good luck" on her new venture, whatever, and where ever that is today..............
-
I was only using the statement you made as a reference to how that could be taken wrong by the person whose butt was being busted, there are a few peole who will welcome a woman into the "ranks" so to speak and there are those who seem to get their ego inflated anytime they can cause her grief. I was simply stateing that some men need to think before they start to ration out their ideas of how to speak to/treat a woman when she is in a field that is traditionaly held by men.
My " would you want your wife, mother or daughter to have to put up with that type of thing at their jobs? sometimes a moment of thought before a statement can really save someones feelings or self esteem." statement was used only to get those who mistreat/insult/slam women to think about the situation from a different perspective, and thats all. I in no way intended to suggust that you had done anything wrong towards this woman that worked with you....if you think I was attacking you I do appologize. -
but now, i "infered" that you meant my wife, daughter, see how this goes now....????
that's the way I TOOK YOUR STATEMENTS..........
let's move on, done deal.............. -
I'll address this in here, rather than privately, because I have an opinion too.
Over the years, I have witnessed so many men who think that women driving trucks is something strange, when the fact is, they have basically all the same equipment necessary to do the job, that a man does. They have hands, arms, legs, and a brain.
I've heard, also like everyone else, the cutting remarks that women have had to endure from men for "daring" to think that they can do the job. I don't get it.
I was taught by my parents to respect women, and men for that matter, and I take my hat off to ANYONE, despite gender, who can make it in this industry. I cannot tell you the number of times that I have run across women whom I wound up running down the road with, who are just like their male counterparts, in that they are out there for much the same reason that the men are. They are trying to make a living.
I do find that women get defensive at times, and justifiably so. Some can let it roll off their backs, and others like I am, are sick and tired of bearing witness to people who have no manners. Why some men think that a women who keys up on a CB is only looking for a good time, is beyond all comprehension.
I've personally trained three women to be drivers, and two of them are still out there and they own their own trucks. They have bucked all the odds that were against them, and they have nothing but my complete respect and admiration.
In regard to the little dispute that has occured in the thread, I think Luvmyhubby has clarified her response, and offered an apology if something was misconstrued. ProDriver1 did the same thing. Take a breath and all will be okay.
We live in a world where people sometimes wear their feelings on their sleeves, and it's easy to become a little sensitive over some things. Understand that I don't necessarily think that this is a bad thing, because I sure prefer sensitivity to that of being like a stone wall. I don't feel that either side meant to draw blood, and only a band-aid is needed to help repair the wounds inflicted.
Personally, I don't like the phrase, "busting orbs", and never have. I know it is a commonly used word up in the northeast, and so in my opinion, the phrase itself may well have allowed anyone to view that in a negative light, and to misinterpret what was meant. -
Remember also that we are not all going to agree on every subject either. It's OK to have disagreements and post with each other about your concerns and your experiences in any area of living.
I find it interesting to read what you all have to say about things in life. I may not agree on some things but never the less reasonable discussions are what makes this Country great and the people in it!
After all if proven wrong on some things....Iam not afraid to change my opinons, and welcome the insight! -
I have known some female flatbedders that would run some of you younger guys into the ground. I once met a female flatbedder that was 63 years old, she had been flatbedding for over 20 years, dont kid yourself this may be a male dominated industry but females can do it just the same.

Hey, any woman that can do the job that this 215 lb male trucker can do, has my ultimate respect!! It can be very hard work and involves many hardships---can't pee on the tires like guys can! I have a hard time visualizing a woman doing the poor-hygeine thing that many men do--esp. with the monthly thing. One of the things that I like about 'certain' women is NOT being 'hi-maintenance!' I think that if a guy finds a 'feminine' women with that characteristic as a 'team' driver', he has batted a 1000! That comes from a 2 times divorcee (both cases I filed!) who is NOT looking!!!

Hello! I once had a converation with a dispatcher in my home terminal. She previously drove a truck for many years, and was a big support for me in dealing with "women vs men" truck driving issues.
At the time I was doing a Wal-Mart dedicated route delivering meat and produce. I showed up to my stop and couldn't get in the back door. The store wouldn't even answer the phone. I walked around through the front entrance and to the dock area. On my way back, I told a manager that I was there with the truck and I needed to be unloaded. I stood forever and eventually went to go find someone again. This went on and on for about half and hour. I think the manager was on break. When the manager comes back to finally unload the truck he looked at me standing there with the paper work and said "now where's the truck driver" Talk about disgusted! I laughed and told him "you're looking at her" He replied "OH!".
IT's really sad to me that we have these issues in America! A CDL isn't just handed to you. I know I earned mine just as much as any of the guys I went to school with.
So I guess the main rules to follow are: 1)Always watch your back and be safe. 2)Don't take any crap from anyone. The dispatcher that I spoke of earlier gave me this advice. She said "It doesn't matter how long you've been driving a truck. If you're a women then you are always new to the business and automatically stupid. I'm not sure I agree with it, but it is somewhat humorous if you think about it.
