Hey drivers I have a question I wanted to ask and see what you guys thought.
I wanted to know what you guys thought about hotshots in the industry. Do you feel as if they take some work away from the truckers. Do you enjoy driving with them on the road?
Personally I'm kind of neutral stance as I know they do carry a CDL but sometimes I do drive past them and think to myself if they are hurting the truckers at all. Also I've seen some good drivers out there but I've also seen some hotshots that seem to be carrying more then they can handle. I see there trailers swerving in and out of my lane and it makes it feel more risky passing them by. Never had a issue but please share your thoughts.

A "Hotshot" is a smaller truck/trailer combo, usually a pick-up and gooseneck trailer. They haul freight that's not enough to fill a 53' trailer and is generally a "hot" load, as in, gotta' go now. They are filling a need in the industry since not all shippers ship truck-loads, right ? Fed-Ex does this too, in a straight truck. They charge good rates because the truck gets there now and picks up and delivers now.

Everybody needs a job. Someday, I may be one of these guys. It honest work that needs doing. Every vehicle on the road, rails, water, or air, is taking work away from every other. If I resented everyone that competes with me in the workplace, I'd have to stop resenting having to foot the bill for people who could work, but don't.

Nope. I'm good with hotshots. I'll even share commercial driver seating with them, at the truck stop restaurants. I only ask that they be the same professionals that we are, in the big rigs. And, as a rule, they always have been. Their equipment operates differently from ours, and we each have to make allowances for one another's foibles, but I've never run across a hotshot that couldn't just as easily have been a big-rig driver. We're all just out here trying to make a living, and I find it hard to be resentful of a guy who is just trying to do so, the same way as me.

The thing that bugs me about them most is when you pull in a truck stop and they are taking up a spot.

Why wouldn't a truck driver park a commercial truck in a truck stop?.

Now the guys that leave their personal cars in truck spaces to save the spot, they can go to hell.

Because it’s a pickup plain and simple. They have tons of places to park. Quit acting like a truck driver and leave that spot to someone who needs it. Go park with the RV’s

If they have no trailer, sure they can park just about anywhere, some of those rigs are not much shorter than a class 8 though and if they are registered as commercial vehicles then they have every right to use truck parking.

    I’m assuming you’re a hotshot?
