Miles and Freight

Discussion in 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' started by firecaptain1204, Nov 22, 2008.

  1. I work for one of the smaller big-carriers (~2500 tractors). We have seen a *slight* slow down in the last 3 weeks, but I'm still running about 2800 m/w. I had been running 3200ish all year long. While that might not sound like much of a slowdown, keep in mind that usually Nov. and Dec. we are running SILLY, so *any* slowdown at this time is a strange deal. Just my .02

I don't know do they? I never really put much thought into how many JB and Schneider had.

last I knew Schneider had about 17,000 company trucks and 5 or 6 thousand O/O's, but that was about 6 years ago.:biggrin_2554:

ill be home for 2 weeks come friday when i finaly leave. Its been terribly slow here in chicagoland. I think mostly cause the rates changed due too the falling diesel cost and my boss didnt adjust. I hope this dont continue.

I'm a new driver(2 months) runing solo and struggling to make 2000 miles a week. I work for werner so my pay is very low per mile. I'm only taking home about 320 a week wich is not enough to support my family. I'm very fustrated because I assumed I could make a decent income as a truck driver and make ends meet at home. I had to get into this because I was lay off at my other job.
but let me ask you more experience drivers? what I'm doing wrong? why can't I make decent money a week? Please give me some advice on how I can do better money wise as I'm desperate and fustrated. thanks for any help en advance.

    Tonher,

Well I'm not sure what you make a mile at Werner, but I have heard thru the years that they pay very low. Did you go thru school at Werner? It is tough all around right now, But I still manage to make 50 thousand or so a year as a company driver. are you locked into an agreement to stay on at Werner?
