Galaxy keeps popping fuses.

    So I just got a new Galaxy Dx 979. It's peaked and tuned. Very nice radio I really like it... when it's not blowing fuses that is! :biggrin_25512:. Every time I switch it over to LSB or USB it blows the inline fuse in the power cord. It's only a 2amp fuse. I did buy some 10amp but idk if it will be ok to throw it in. I don't want to cook my radio. What amp fuse should I be using? Is a 10 ok, or should I just get a pack of 5 amp? :dontknow:

    You need at least a 10 amp fuse. What are you wiring it to and have you read the manual?

    I use 5 amps in my DX 959 for the same exact reason. Every time I switched from SSB to AM or visa versa it would pop the 2 amp

    Just the standard wiring that is in my T680. And yes I did read the manual. It is only a few pages though. Nothing like the one you provided in the link

    Where are you wiring it to? Make sure that has a fuse that will handle the radio.

    Just the standard connections in a T680. I've never had a problem like this with inline fuses. Always had low powered radios though. Like a stock Uniden bearcat, and a Cobra 29

    Whom ever "tuned" it probably cranked the power up way too high...

    The Galaxy 949/959 is a single final Am 4 watt legal radio with the same power output as the Bearcat and Cobra 29 you referred to, and on ssb it is rated at 12watts and when on ssb the current drain is 4A max and that is why it is blowing 2.5A fuse when on ssb.

    Switching over side band blows a fuse ... right?

    Not transmitting but just switching when on receive ... right?
