Can you provide the source that indicates 9/15/2017 as the cut off date for the installation of an AOBRD in order to get the 2 year grandfathered extension? I don't think that is correct. But then again, what do I know?![]()

Not according to Mark. Unless you are talking about something other than the ELD 50.... Right now you can set the distance and mph, but on Dec 18th Rand will set it to 5mph.Scooter Jones Thanks this.

There isn't one. Here is the FAQ from FMCSA's own mouth...
What is a “grandfathered” automatic onboard recording device (AOBRD)?
What is a “grandfathered” automatic onboard recording device (AOBRD)?
A “grandfathered” AOBRD is a device that a motor carrier installed and required its drivers to use before the electronic logging device (ELD) rule compliance date of December 18, 2017. The device must meet the requirements of 49 CFR 395.15. A motor carrier may continue to use grandfathered AOBRDs no later than December 16, 2019. After that, the motor carrier and its drivers must use ELDs. See Section 395.15 (a) of the ELD final rule.
Heck, you can even move an AOBR from one truck to another in the grandfather period.
According to 395.8 if a motor carrier installs and requires a driver to use an AOBRD
According to § 395.8, if a motor carrier “installs and requires a driver to use an AOBRD…before December 18, 2017 they may continue to use the AOBRD until December 16, 2019.” Does this mean I can move an AOBRD from one vehicle to another after December 18, 2017?
If your operation uses AOBRDs before December 18, 2017, and you *replace vehicles in your fleet you can install an AOBRD that was used in the previous CMV. However, you may not purchase and install a new AOBRD in a vehicle after December 18, 2017. -
Good news. Apparently, when you switch to "yard move", you can drive up to 5 miles with any speed without it switching to "drive".
I really needed only the ability to move few hundred feet without it changing duty status (for example move from far end of the truck stop all the way to front row), so it looks like the speed limit threshold does not matter to me anymore. -
Which is why I posted #139
DUNE-T Thanks this. -
True, what misled me was BigRoad customer service rep and Keeptrucking rep, both said that yard move will interrupt the clock
-
have you noticed KT now has AOBRD option in compliance settings but speed threshold bar is not working . in aobrd mode you can change drive time to yard move and reassign drivers.

Not only Rand, But all companies ELD's will have to comply,, it is part of the mandate.

4.4.1.1 Automatic Setting of Duty Status to Driving
An ELD must automatically record driving time when the vehicle is in motion by
setting duty status to driving for the driver unless, before the vehicle is in motion, the
driver:
(a) Sets the duty status to off-duty and indicates personal use of CMV, in which
case duty status must remain off-duty until driver’s indication of the driving condition
ends; or
(b) Sets the duty status to on-duty not driving and indicates yard moves, in which
case duty status must remain on-duty not driving until driver’s indication of the driving
condition ends.
When will an electronic logging device (ELD) automatically start to record a driving mode or status?
When will an electronic logging device (ELD) automatically start to record a driving mode or status?
PreviousNext
An ELD must automatically switch to driving mode once the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) is moving up to a set speed threshold of five miles per hour. As a result, the in-motion state must not be configured greater than five miles per hour. The vehicle will be considered stopped once its speed falls to zero miles per hour and stays at zero miles per hour for three consecutive seconds.Dieselboss Thanks this. -
I need to do a yard move from the yard in atlanta georgia to the yard in milwaukee wisconsin.
Don't want to log it as drive time. It's a yard move. LOL
