Like what? Aside from leaving the job I left to start the CRST fiasco, every move I've made since then was an attempt to find greener pastures.

bobo, here's another thread that briefly mentions some of my problems with CRST Malone:

Scarecrow, I went through and read all of your posts about you and your stepfathers truck adventure. It just didn't work out I guess. Tell me...were they keeping you moving or were you sitting alot? And if they were keeping you moving was it just all cheap loads? Another question...were you able to shop for freight or were you always at the mercy of some lain brain dispatcher? What I mean by that is, I have had brokers try me on...and if I didn't bite, magically there would be a better load! I really appreciate your comments.

I sat a lot because we were trying not to deadhead a lot, which is what they were trying to do.
You could use any broker you wanted so long as you used CRST Logistics first. We had a side kit, and I would only pull those sides if it was a really good paying load. Well, that was how I wanted it to be anyway. I say that to say this, it was hard for us to find side kit loads anywhere outside of the midwest. We'd try and try, but inevitably we'd sit for a day, sometimes two, trying to find something that A) wasn't a 250 mile deadhead (not an exaggeration) or B) paid more than $1.20/mi with the FSC (again, not an exaggeration). After I sat for a day or two, I would get onto dispatch about needing to move (a truck driver's biggest gripe) and she'd wave some decent paying CRST Logistics load (around $1.80 before FSC) that was anywhere from 150 to 200 miles out. This happened one time on a load to Charlotte, NC. I sat there empty for two days and looked for freight like crazy. Called broker after broker. No one had anything for a flat with sides. The only flat load we found (that was paying more than our $1.40 minimum) was a load that didn't pick up until the next week and didn't deliver until the week after that.
The smallest deadhead I can ever remember (aside from the one time I unloaded coils and reloaded scrap aluminum at the same dock) was around 65 miles. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but it's a fair estimate that the average deadhead per load was right around 100 miles. And the average gross per loaded mile was probably about $1.40 without the FSC. When you factor in all the deadhead, we pulled a lot of loads that didn't even break the dollar a mile mark.
Some guys can make anything work. Some guys can't. Maybe you can make CRST work for you. I don't know. All I know is that I won't ever put my name or my reputation on this forum on CRST Malone.
bobobrazil Thanks this.
