Ok guys. Some of you saying $250-$400 or $500 need to specify this is what is in your contract with your customer or broker before you even book the load. Sounds like OP left himself wide open on this one so he will be lucky to collect $150 which is pretty standard, whether one agrees with that or not, on dry van freight from brokers.

No excuses, no reasoning - someone ordered a truck, they pay the full rate of that load or a compromise but it ain't going to be no $300.

We tell the broker that a TONU is a full rate of our load, and it is put into the contract they send us, with their clause crossed out, telling them to initial is and send it back. Most will, others won't and we won't haul for them.

The few times I've managed to get that its been around 250$. Most times companies dont want to burn bridges so they wont go after them for big bucks. Good luck

After the fact? Be happy if they give you a pat on the head....
For future reference, make sure it's specified in the carrier packet, or the individual rate sheet on when tonu fee will be.

I cross it out and note it on the carrier contract if one is mentioned, and make sure it's in the rate con where necessary. Full rate.
I am going to perform a job based on it paying a certain amount; therefore I expect to make that amount for it to be worth performing. Expected revenue doesn't change because of someone else's mistakes. While some may say they won't pay it: people I deal with recognize that they can pay now to satisfy our agreement, or pay later to find someone else for every other shipment they move and the damage caused by people who can't provide the proper kind of service. Sounds like a weak argument: except if you deal with shippers that have ultra high expectations of carriers, and have a few that they already use that are "top notch" and cause problems; that type of customer sees the value in a carrier/partner business that "makes it happen" without issue, every time.
