I have been looking at used dry van trailers, Mostly early 2000’s. I was wondering if the age of the trailer will limit me? I don’t want to buy a used trailer for $5000 and not get any work because my trailer is 17 years old.
Age of trailer???

I bet you some of that shippers usually wont care what the age of a given trailer is. I could probably grab a 98 great dane, whistle clean on the inside and aluminum shining with reefer going and get loaded anywhere. No one is going to bother me about that trailer's age as long it's food grade clean and tight against weather etc.
With that said, take some time and evaluate your potential shippers before you commit to a trailer. If you are looking at trailers now, I will presume that you already have a idea where you are going to be loading it. Check with them first.
Be very careful and check every rivet on them things, check each and every floorboard underneath and the cross frame members etc etc etc. You will know a good trailer when you do find one.Dino soar and Peterman88 Thank this. -
X1heavy thank you very much for the info. I will most definitely do exactly that!!x1Heavy Thanks this.

The only places that may give you a hard time about an old trailer are paper mills. They check manufacturer date at the gate

Key is making sure it don't leak i remember going to pick up a load of sugar once in Indiana and on the way to the warehouse went through this enormous storm when i opened the back doors there was water all over the place the dispatch refused to load me till i got it fixed.Peterman88 and x1Heavy Thank this.

Copper places will check your manufacture date at the gate also. Nothing over 10 years old.

I unloaded a trailer last week (dry bulk pneumatic) that was manufactured in 1989. It's been well maintained and was converted from a tandem to a tridem this past winter (all custom work done in-house).
Age doesn't have as much effect on the quality of the equipment, in fact a lot of older equipment is built to last, unlike a lot of modern stuff (look at 1960's and 1970's Mack's, they are still working just like they did back then). Being well-maintained is a large part of making something last.Peterman88 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Allison Transmission near me in White Marsh will also disallow anything older than 10 years.Maj. Jackhole, Peterman88, snowwy and 1 other person Thank this.

No go at General Motors in Wentzville, MO as well.MACK E-6, Peterman88 and snowwy Thank this.

All of GM is that way. As a result a lot of suppliers for GM also disallow older than 10 years. Even if you are picking up for someone else like Ford.Peterman88, snowwy and motocross25 Thank this.
