It's not engine parts that is the problem, truck parts specific to Volvo are the problem

You are going to get a million different opinions but i think you need to state what type of work you intend to do.
The gear ratio, headache rack and flag holders tells me it hauled wide or heavy or both which is harder on a truck if it hauled heavy, not a deal breaker though especially if its what you intend to do.
The frame is more work then some realize if you intend to do it right, sand blasting is messy and removes good paint with the rust.
I am just finishing a KW T800, i didn't blast the frame i wire wheeled it and used a DA sander on the painted areas and in the tight areas i lightly used a small wire wheel, sprayed it with Osphro, removed the residue with acetone primed and painted it.
The key is to get everywhere, so you need to remove everything in your way, wheels, fifth wheel, tanks, fairing etc, not a easy job if you intend to do it right.

Why would I do that.. I can get perfectly good parts at 30/40% of counter cost.. like I said keeps my overhead down.. besides detroits are everwhere and came in almost every truck availible.. so I can find parts almost anywhere.. less overhead means more money home to the wife and kids.. not sure why you seem to think you need name brand parts or think that there hard to come by.. Maybe you just don't like detroits.. so this will probaby set you off.. I'm currently shoehorning a 12.7 into a short hood w900a in place of a big cam.. maybe you' want that when I pull it out.. 20141011_133657.jpg
