I've had a cobra 29LX for the past 8 years. According to a repair shop the finals burnt out. Their isn't much of a difference I think it 40 bucks to repair this one or get a new one.
I've been thinking about possibly going with a different brand. I have no clue as to what the differences are. I have been reading about the differant features, but most of them seem to be about the same. (Input and output)
    Any advice would be welcom

If it served you well, it is worth the $40 to get it working again.

A radio like that would be like an old friend to me. I'd have to fix it

Pay for the repair, it will cost a lot more than that for a new one.The radio you have is $139 new.

I run the Midwest and some east coast. I've been through a lot of the posts on the forum and made a list of good places to look into.
Until then I have a bearcat 880 as an emergency backup.

You might want to find out why the final(s?) blew! Double check your antenna system! If there is an antenna problem you will be going back to the repair shop!

i'd get new. the time it takes to find a cb shop, then hope and pray he doesn't run outta town with your stuff just ain't worth the bother. there are always some sort of sales. then too if you have a rewards card, you get it cheap as well.

maybe install a new coax as well.

Cobra 29LX hasn't been around for 8 years yet... The Cobra 29 LX LE 50th year anniversary radio came out in Sept.2010...The "LX's" came out the following year...

I also agree with jdchet...Before hooking up another radio, I would double check the antenna and coax and make sure the antenna is tuned properly...Finals don't usually burn up on their own...
