Hello all,
I had a note on my driver door this morning to see an upper level manager. I got into my assigned truck and pulled to the from of the terminal, got out and went into the office. Once I saw this safety manager he claimed that he witnessed me getting into my truck and moving it without doing a PreTrip. I stated that I have never had a note on my truck to see this person before and that I did as stated, came to see him. He is claiming that since I moved the truck 100 yards that I had no intention of doing a pre-trip and that I was in the wrong, which carries a 3 day suspension.
My question is this.... as long as I do a pretrip before I leave the property am I doing my job correctly?
Is there any laws that state in writing one way or another?

Whats a pre-trip inspection??? Is that when you get up in the morning and pee on your tire??
-
another reason that I work for a small company where the owner is also the Safety officer, He wants his drivers to bad to be a jerk

I'd answer the question Airlingus, but I'm not a trucker, so, sorry -
Although the first thing I would have said was "I thought it was something important you wanted me for so thats why I came right in". -
sounds like someone was catching heat from their boss so set driver/drivers up, think I would have taking straight to her supervision, explained exactly what happened, bet her story didn't include anything about a note for driver to report to office.

No, it sounds like they are looking to fire some drivers. So, are miles down company wide over the past few months? Sounds like a chicken sh-t way to can a driver.
And in regards to moving the truck on company property without doing a walk around, there are no laws. That is company policy you are fighting. It's their truck and their rules. I would start looking for a job.

I would do a pre trip inspection after I hooked my trailer and did my paperwork to start a trip. Moving a truck in the yard without doing a pre trip? I couldn't count the number of times I've done that. How did that moron know you didn't do a pre trip earlier when he wasn't looking?
I guess there's nothing you can do about it, but I'd have told him exactly what I thought of his 3 day suspension! -
I bet you they put it on the DAC report! Keep your eye out for that also!

I was thinking that with the freight slow and them maybe not having a load for him this was the way out of having him calling for 3 days
