So I have a few friends that have gotten out and went to work over the road. I have done some reading on here about starter companies, but not much tailored towards the military vet. I was a grunt in the army, and have been working the last few years as a repo agent and tired of it.. let me rephrase that, I love the job,it’s just the industry is going through some changes and it’s kinda going down the pooper. I’m tired of being treated like crap by these companies.. I’m the type of guy that will give me 110% as long as I’m treated fair, I love being on the road and driving, in good with being alone, and been driving trucks and trailers all my life, just nothing this big..
My questions are who has been with a company and done the va apprenticeship program? What company has the best options for military veterans and the apprenticeship program? My friend works for a flatbed company, and is really happy, but they won’t hire me from Az/co and not moving Also I’d really like to be able to bring my dog once im done with training. I have my GI Bill to use and would love to find a good company to use the apprenticeship for that extra money.. thanks in advance for the help!

Are there any vets that can share experience making the switch?

I'm a vet but didn't go that route. Had family to teach me. Good luck

My spouse was a vet, she left federal employ to escape a evironment she had enough of. She went to school got the CDL and we teamed up provided I was the trainer to build a team out of her with FFE. FFE was more than accommodating once they discovered that within three weeks into training that tractor trailer was moving around the USA like a full team. She did well, considering what I put her through and where dispatch sent us. Mostly rockies into winter ice and sierras, cascades etc.
The reason she got out was borderline obesity. The trucking life versus the rather bad food did not agree with her long term. However we did well, no regrets and even excelled with McKesson after FFE. Cancer was coming later on but that's another story al together. -
@19d maybe is awake and reading this forum.

I’ve just read a lot of horror stories... I have a brain in my head and can think outside of the box. I get it I’m learning and starting out, but I don’t want to bend over and take it from a company ya know.. I’d like to go into this with the best plan..
