    broadcastify.com has a lot of scanners u can listen to online and ur phone can get a scanner app too I have both one n my phone and one on the laptop

    And with any "scanner app" if you travel far and wide, you'd spend more distracted time trying to find a relevant channel for where you're at, and it would be dangerous, and only worthwhile for an hour or two.

    No not most.
    A lot yes. But still a ton of stuff 'in the clear'

    Keep in mind some states don't allow it at all. And a few others only allow it with HAM License.
    And some of those states will confiscate your scanner (Indiana).
    Mobile Scanner & RADAR-Detector Laws In The US

    Don't buy any scanner that is not capable of digital period.
    Radio reference is a good place for scanner information.

    Some of the unidens can be paired with a GPS receiver and will switch systems based on location.

    Trunked scanners are cheap. Digital is not.

    Are you suggesting an 'expensive trunked' scanner can listen to encrypted audio?

    I used to listen to one on my phone. 5-0 radio. I usually listened to Memphis lots of action. One call came across homeless guys setting their underwear on fire in an alley LOL

    Well they are going to digital now, and its very difficult to hear those transmissions.
