I read the title and I thought to myself "####, that's gotta be hard. I do all my packing before I leave for my 2 week trip."

430 ILCS 66/40
(e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident:
(1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law;
(2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of residence, if applicable; and
(3) is not in possession of a license under this Act. If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act. (Source: P.A. 98-63, eff. 7-9-13.)
Subsection (b) of Section 65 States:
(b) Notwithstanding subsections (a), (a-5), and (a-10) of this Section except under paragraph (22) or (23) of subsection (a), any licensee prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm into the parking area of a prohibited location specified in subsection (a), (a-5), or (a-10) of this Section shall be permitted to carry a concealed firearm on or about his or her person within a vehicle into the parking area and may store a firearm or ammunition concealed in a case within a locked vehicle or locked container out of plain view within the vehicle in the parking area. A licensee may carry a concealed firearm in the immediate area surrounding his or her vehicle within a prohibited parking lot area only for the limited purpose of storing or retrieving a firearm within the vehicle's trunk. For purposes of this subsection, "case" includes a glove compartment or console that completely encloses the concealed firearm or ammunition, the trunk of the vehicle, or a firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container.
Basically what this says is that you can carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle in Illinois as long as you have a CCW permit from your state. "If applicable" covers those states with constitutional carry that do not require a permit.
You are not required to inform in Illinois. My policy for that state, especially Cook county, is... Don't ask, don't tell.SheepDog Thanks this. -
I carry all the time but only go through states that recognize my TN permit.
I was in East Chicago, IN (where my permit was valid) in a 4 wheeler to meet a guy for business. He called and said he was at another plant in Chicago, IL and wanted me to meet him there. I completely disassembled my firearm before I crossed the boarder into Chicago, fearing I'd get into trouble. I told the guy the trouble he caused me with my firearm by asking me to go to Chicago. He said him and his co-workers all carried and the cops would more or less leave you alone if you weren't acting stupid. Of course there is always that one so I still wasn't taking any chances.SheepDog Thanks this. -
It's up to you but I would say that your company does not allow it. I never saw the need but I was hauling gasoline and who would mess with me. Also to me it's a hassle to know all the city and state laws to be legal. I would hope that those of you that do carry a firearm know what deadly force is and when to use your firearm. If not you could end up in jail and a whole bunch of trouble.

I'd never carry anything with me that I'm not supposed to have if there was any way that it would leave behind evidence that could in any way positively ID me as the person the cops were looking for if they managed to trace it back to me. In other words, no brass left at the scene and no ballistics to be pulled off the round lodged in the perp...nothing that would give them "the weapon" beyond all reasonable doubt. I have no plans to stick around should I need to defend myself for the simple reason I don't know where that guy's friends are or how many of them might be upset about what I had to do, and I don't care to find out. Take care of business to protect my safety and exit the situation to a safe location. If there IS eventually a knock on the door by the boys in blue? The only thing I'm telling the cops is that I'm going to exercise my right to counsel, and won't be answering any of their questions.

House of Representatives a few minutes ago passed HR 38, aka National Carry. 230 something to nos..(217 needed to pass)
It goes to the Senate for debate and passage. (Government will shut down Friday midnight this week if no CR at minimum is passed to maintain it this week.)
This bill will provide anyone who holds a Concealed Carry License from any State that Issues same, the same treatment as we get from our Drivers Licensing from any state to any state. That means even Maryland etc must shut up sit down and let me through with my CHL even though they do not recognize licenses from other states.
It also theoretically means that even the least state among us without a license to carry concealed such as Alaska can carry in all 50 states. I don't know exactly yet if this is true or not. Remember the words License Holder. There are still states without any kind of licensing to carry.
If this thing becomes law after Trump signs... theoretically truckers can now carry. If they hold a license. Obviously it will not be a defense to being fired by employer for doing so. -
