Dewfrogg Thanks this. -
Dewfrogg - My hubby just brought home that issue of The Trucker, and I did see you letter in there! I told him I thought I recognized that situation as one I had seen on here.
Dewfrogg Thanks this. -
Keepin the faith and praying for you. Can you print you letter to the trucker on here for others to read?
Dewfrogg Thanks this. -
Thanks URUNU,
I will print it tomorrow. It's getting late and I need to hit the sack. Had a good Turkey day. Hope all of you trucker friends did too. I didn't have to go back and get that shot after all. They gave it to me yesterday. But I must say, this 2nd Chemo treatment was rougher. I felt so weak, and shaky. And my kids said I looked really pail. When I looked in the mirror, it scared me. So I went to bed. Felt much better today. Stay safe and have a nice night.

OK IRUNU, HERE IT IS...
I was a team driver with my fiance' until I got sick on the road and had to be hospitalized. I kept getting sick and could not figure out why. I got so sick that my fiance' said "Your are going to the hospital." So I did.
I was to sick to find out if the hospital was in the insurance network or not. It is in the network according to the insurance search that I checked. Two days after being admitted, I was medically terminated from the company I was driving for. I was in the hospital! And the insurance went out of effect that I had at midnight of the same day... I didn't find out I was terminated until a couple of days later.
The dispatcher kept trying to get the time of how long I would be off. I had no idea, as I didn't have a diagnosis. So I guessed about 6 months, because there was a chance I might have lymphoma. He also asked my fiance' how long would I be off. And he said for a while.
So this guy took this and ran, so to speak. That was the end of my driving with that company, and the end of my insurance. We found out the following Monday that I do have lymphoma. I was let go even before there was a diagnosis. So then, I had to apply for Cobra insurance which costs so much more, over $300.00 a month. With my income cut off, and just the income of my fiance',it's been tough to dole out that much money. The insurance only pays 80%, so that will leave us owing the other 20%. I will have to take Chemotherapy. I am not looking forward to this, but if I want to live, I have to.
I feel that the company should have been a little more supportive of my predicament. I went through a really tough time just learning tat I have Cancer and the mental anguish I went through because of the company's actions was just wrong. They showed me and my fiance' that they could care less about their employees. To them, we were just drivers. And they were trying to cut their losses by getting rid of a sick employee. Of course, that doesn't surprise me at all.
I will get well, but I certainly will look around at different trucking companies and how they treat their employees before accepting a driving job again. The company I worked for stresses that they respect their drivers. What a bunch of bull. I'm living proof that they don't...
I won't say what company it is, as I don't want to get any kind of lawsuits going. I wanted to sue them, but you must work for at least a year before you can file a wrongful termination suit. I had a few months to go. So I cannot sue them. What they did to me was very unethical. So drivers, beware of getting sick out on the road, as you might the boot like I did.
Okay everyone, this is what I wrote to the trucker magazine. And they printed it. If you want my email. You can get it from that magazine article. Thanks to all of you. Dewfrogg

Wow, Dewfrogg, it just sucks that they did that to you, and at the worst possible time.
Health and financial worries are bad enough, having both at once.......
But keep fighting and keep praying.
God is bigger than any **** trucking or insurance company.
You concentrate on getting well, and let Him figure out the rest. -
Dewfrog, you need to contact an attorney.
Your illness began during your insurance coverage. I do not believe it would terminate exactly at the time of your termination.
In addition, since you were employed longer than 6 months, there is consideration of COBRA. Your employer is also subject to offering COBRA to you as well.
You might also consider the Family Leave act as well.
You can pm if you wish for more, but I despise these corporate acts.
I just checked, you are under the pm rules limit. PM a moderator and they can forward to me.
Also, keep good spirits and keep fighting for your health. -
Hi Roadmedic,
You can pm me anytime. And I'll pm you back, but I have nothing to hide in here. I just don't want to mention the company name since they probably read this. My email address was in the item I sent to the trucker magazine. But if they will allow me to pm it to you in here. I will. Thanks
