From what I've read about the violence at Little League type
"games", including beating coaches with baseball bats, ---
perhaps they should ENCOURAGE more folks to open-carry.
Just a thought I think I thunk.
leannamarie Thanks this. -
It annoys me when people assume you're doing something wrong, I've carried over thirty years and never had the police called on me.
When I worked construction driving dump truck, I had a co-worker confront me because I was wearing a 1911A1 .45 in the side of my jeans. He asked if I had a permit, and stated that Connecticut requires concealed carry.
"My pistol is concealed. Who are you?" I asked.
He flashed his ID at me, he was a Connecticut state trooper, off duty, driving dump truck for the company I worked for.
"In Connecticut we revoke permits like that!" He snapped his fingers.
I explained that my pistol was concealed, I had my tee-shirt over it.
He then started with why do you carry and what was my reason for issue.
I then asked him if the commissoner knew he was driving dump truck on the weekend. Connecticut troopers are not allowed to work for anyone other than the state without permission from the commissioner. He dropped the arguement.
I carry everywhere except the post office and inside school buildings, and I have no reason to go into school buildings. -
What an elitist snob that trooper is...
Can't stand people like that...who think that others are below them and should only be allowed to have special privileges...
(and good on you for having the taste to carry a 1911
)
That's why I am glad to live in a "shall issue" state vs. a "may issue" state...they can't bully you around as easily... -
I actually feel safer when I see someone carrying openly. I know someone else will be able to try to protect the flock with me. If a thug is up to no good, they won't be carrying openly.
I carry concealed, but I don't give a second look if I see someone else with a handgun strapped on their hip.Joetro and leannamarie Thank this. -
I've been a lurker to these forums for a while, considering changing careers to becoming an OTR driver, but I felt a need to post on this thread to clear up some things.
I live in PA and have on several occasions met this lady, Melanie Hain, at various functions sponsored though the website pafoa (PA Firearms Owners Association).
Few things..
1. This soccer game was held at a public municipal park, not on school grounds.
2. PA has complete preemption on firearms laws. Only the PA state wide laws determine where you cannot carry firearms. Local governments cannot ban firearms in local parks or anywhere else for that matter that is not already covered by state laws.
Off-limits places in PA and what makes them off-limits:
1. Court Facilities - PA Title 18, Chapter 9, Subsection 913
2a.*Grounds and buildings of Elementary and Secondary schools(K-12 grades), whether the school is private or public - PA Title 18, Chapter 9, Subsection 912
2b. Within 1000ft of a school unless you have a license/permit issued by the state in which the school is located - US Title 18, Part I, Chapter 44, Subsection 922(q)
3. ***State Parks and other reserves maintained by the PA DCNR - by regulation 17 PA. CODE, PART I, Subpart B, Subsection 11.215
4. Casinos - by regulation Title 18, Part VII, Chapter 465, Subsection 465a.13
5. Certain Department of State buildings - by regulation
6. Places off-limits by Federal Law or regulation, IE: military installations(exceptions for hunting at some bases), Federal Government buildings, National Parks and other historic sights, after the security check point in airports.
7. Any private property where a landowner, tenant or person so authorized to maintain property has asked you to leave because you are carrying - Title 18, Chapter 35, Subsection 3503
If your situation is not one of the above, then you are LEGAL.
Off-limits places apply just the same for open as they do concealed.
*Colleges are not prohibited by law, however the college could levy their own infractions like expelling the person or other civil punishments.
***The state park regulatory off-limits will no longer be in affect after Dec 16th or 17th of 2008 due to passage and signing of HB1845
Links edited out - Don't have enough posts to add links.
3. Open carry without a license in legal in PA with two exceptions. In vehicle carry and cites of the first class (over 1+ mil population, currently only Philadelphia) require a license to open carry.
4. PA is a shall issue state that issues a "Licence to Carry Firearms", this LCTF states nothing about any requirement to conceal carry.
5. She does not carry a extremely large gun. She normally carries a Glock 26, sub-compact 9mm, a rather small gun.
6. Ironically, by revoking her LCTF for open carrying, he in fact forced her to open carry, since open carry is the only legal way to carry without a LCTF.Last edited by a moderator: Nov 28, 2008
AfterShock, Wiseguywireless and Joetro Thank this. -
...and that's the exact reason many law-abiding CCW holders feel the need to carry handguns, in case one fruit cake does snap.
-
So they feel like little vigilantes? -
Really? Rather wait for the cops to get there, then?
-
That is not what I said.
