correct. but you fill out paper logs, like a dignified adult human. unlike eld's that are in fact being thrust upon the industry as an enforcement tool and nothing else.
it's funny, the ATA wants this log enforcement "safety device" yet they back pedaled the speed limiters they also wanted up until the eld ruling was passed.
they don't want speed regulated, which kills more people than these outlaw cowboys. i don't get the safety trail on that one....
I think ELDs are Unconstitutional

Logging has been required for decades, so if we're using your ankle bracelet analogy the ankle bracelet has been required for decades. But it's not an accurate analogy anyways. A more accurate analogy would be of a prison guard. He hasn't done anything wrong, but he has to be under surveillance as long as he's on site. Depending on his position and where he works, he may not be allowed to carry a firearm either.
The only part of the argument against elogs I think I could potentially get behind is that the government doesn't need access to all the additional info they're requiring now. They want more than just logs--they want everything. I'm still on the fence about all that. -

I see fast older trucks blowing past me in construction zones and governed ones too. (I slow down in them to annoy everyone)
I even see middle aged women with kids in their SUV speeding everywhere.
Elogs won’t stop or promote any of that, Elogs will electronically keep track of a driver’s hours, that’s it.
Don’t fear it, Elogs are good -
i don't entirely disagree. but the argument thrown out there is always "we brought this on ourselves" which is just not true. this was brought on by ATA lobbyists to custom tailer the industry to their model.
this is a gov't supervisory device. log books really are not.
as i stated my issue is that this drags everyone down to the lowest common denominator and regulates them as such. which is what gov't always does. some people violated the law so we now need to supervise all of you.
