    What mileage are you seeing with that BXS?, What are you pulling? I'm asking because some of those bxs engine's will not get over 4 mpg us.

    i pull a 48' flatbed best I've seen 6.4. The worst 4.9 hand calculated. Usually loaded at 48000 lbs, but hopefully better with some better programing.

    Curious,
    how many miles did you have for your mains to be "shot"?
    Did you take oil samples?
    I see you have an '05;
    My '04 has 642k, (MBN ). My '96 3406E broke a liner o-ring at 932K, and mains were just showing a hint of orange. The oil analysis stated "normal wear".

    Thats pretty much what I've seen for mileage from BXS.The fuel temp resistor and hotter fuel settings have put it up over 7 for some people I know.

    Its alot worst up here, the heavy haulers, 63500kg gross are getting 3.5 to 4.2 us. The bxs does not like heavy load. Reminds me for the MBN timing maps. only difference is the twin turbos give you more boost cooling the exhaust temp.

    Working on that, waiting for a bxs to come back so it can do that. I have done everthing else but change the ecm. He is getting 4.2 canadian, but his loads are up to 55 ton in the box. He like to overload. I have a few up here that cat tried every think they can do but can not get fuel mileage.

    anybody know what exactly intake valve actuators do? can they be deafeted through programming. These things have been a pain in the ###!

    Cat does not release that information but I have an idea what they are doing.

    The intake actuators only hold the intake valve open longer, it can not open the valve. In doing this the intake valve is held open longer on the compression stroke. This lets the ecm control compression ratio! Thats why they have 18:1 pistons, they can lower it with software. Lowering the compression ratio in a cruise state (intake actuators are not always active) will lower the cylinder temperatures, lowering NOX emissions.

    kennyp Thanks this.
