See I’ll have to go through my emails but there is a company offering the apprenticeship and credit for service, 1 year for every 4 year served.. I’ll dig through my email and see if I can find it.. I deleted it because after doing some research it was a company everyone said to run from.. but if the extra pay is worth it to get my feet wet for the first year I can suck it up for a year..

Maybe Schneider or JB Hunt ? I talked to a recruiter who said the same thing from one of the two.

The military apprenticeship program is just a good way to take what could be a 3 year, up to $75k+ educational benefit and turn it into a $15k cash payout. All it is is a monthly stipend, to 'help with getting on your feet'. That's garbage, and I think the company that enrolls you gets some kind of either payout or tax write off from you.

It's a tax write off and it isn't all bad if you use it right. I was looking at a 6 months or a year of it. Then start engineering next year and drive locally part time with after having a year OTR until I finished school.

I got out, took CDL school while on 60 days terminal leave, paid $4k cash myself, hired on with Schneider bulk, they trained me, did all the medical card and new driver stuff in an in-processing format along with everyone else in the class just like an army school, paid me $150 a month in tuition reimbursement over the next two years, and most importantly never said a word to me about my 60% idle time on their company truck that they let me live in. That being said, at .46 a mile, I did not even make 40k the first year, 39,768 and some change or something. But my DBL wasn't the best, and I ran OTR out of Houston, and I didn't have seniority. It was enough to pay my bills and give me the experience needed to know the job, know the customers, know the freight lanes, and know for sure I could manage living in a shoe box long term. It also took me to every corner of the country from Fort Lauderdale to LA to Maine to Blaine WA, county I'd never seen before. But I'm single no kids with a PO box for a house, so easier to manage for a homeless guy. I went with a mega carrier first so I could stay an invisible number. Once you get a year or two in, you can get a much better paying job doing the same task. If you'll notice most trucking applications just require a year amount of experience and a good record. The first year or two you have to grind it on what you can get, based on what type freight you want to haul.

I think 19D runs out of Charlotte area, and he is friends with his DBL, which makes all the difference in what you can get done. Most of the settlement statements he's posted are bigger than mine, and I'm an IC. But he's company, so proof that there's good money there.

    Chinatown Thanks this.
