Good decision. Training isn't bad, I also came thru the program here myself. If coming to Springfield, study for combination vehicles, general knowledge, air brakes and tanker beforehand but wait until here to take tests. Do not come if not clean, drugs. You will spend first week at Campus, taking classes, getting permit, learning shifting concepts in sim lab (not exactly like real truck but process is same), getting medical and background stuff taken care of (don't lie, if they brought you here with whatever background you stated beforehand, you will be fine, if hid something, even minor, back home you go, prescriptions can be a different story, for some reason they don't say what is accepted/unaccapted until here). After first week, you should be linked with a trainer (as early as that Fri thru early next week, some students stay onsite for night course). You will likely stay on road with trainer for 2-4 weeks, depending on how long it takes you to learn enough to pass test. You will likely spend at least a cpl days back here practicing backing maneuvers on pad and driving a standard (if trainer has auto), during this phase, PSD, Prime loans you $200/wk for food and necessities on road, you will be pulling liveloads throughout country with trainer in passenger seat, guiding you at all times. After you pass CDL tests and become an actual Prime employee, you return to the road with trainer for 30,000 combined team miles (TNT)(about 6-8 weeks). You may or may not have same trainer for both phases, some take student all the way thru, some prefer one part of program. During this phase, you will be paid $700/wk guaranteed or 14cpm if over 5000 miles. If you have a company trainer you also get 6cpm for anything over 3000 miles out of team bonus and a small, varying part of fuel bonus. If lease trainer, it is only the guaranteed pay or 14cpm as their trucks are not subject to bonuses. Barring any incidents, after you complete TNT you will be brought in to upgrade into your own truck. The process really isn't that difficult, tho many washout for various reasons. If you take it seriously you should be fine. If for some reason you feel like getting a new trainer is necessary, it can be done but make sure your reasoning is legit when attempting to do so (safety, hygeine, legit abuse). While there really is no reason to shower nearly everyday, I may miss a day here or there for random reasons but I'd estimate I get one 27 out of every 30 days, some trainers just don't. However, anything less than 3-4/wk is fairly unacceptable. You'd be amazed at the filth roaming these highways. Best of luck to you.

You just do what ever you like. No problem carrying a gun in any state. Anyone gives you any guff you show tell them you got the ok right here at TR! Any other questions? Got a rash or lump on head you need explained?

They do make sunglasses with certain features designed to protect you from that hot brass flying. I wear a pair. The only problem with those is any cop and any other shooter knows what I have on instantly and why. They never make anything just plain with adequate protection.captjimmy Thanks this.

Iowa and Tennessee both just held my weapon until the inspection was done . Handed me my inspection form and my weapon and told me to have a safe trip. I do have a conceal carry permit honored by both states .
aussiejosh Thanks this. -
Thank you, that cleared a lot up. Not sure if you know but what are these lightweight trucks they’re talking about in refrigerated division?
-
Nope, no rashes. Thanks for the concern and useful information.

I plan on carrying mace if I have to lock away my firearm for these strict states. I have a friend who is a bounty hunter/bondsman arresting fugitives and he trains like he's going to war as his hobby and I asked him this question. He said mace is nasty stuff and more effective then a taser.

Depends on the device, if actual taser with two prongs that are attached to wires, they are pretty effective. The stun guns do nothing more than make the person mad. A good pepper spray to the nose and eyes pretty much wraps up the situation right then.....
