The nut that holds on the drive gear for air compressor came undone. The air compressor is a rebuilt bendix TU Flo 550 on a C15. Compressor was installed last week with approx. 4000 miles driven since install.
The nut has been reinstalled, torqued to 120ftlbs with red loctite added to threads. Will this keep nut from coming undone again? I can only assume nut was not torqued properly initially to cause it to loosen up.
Has anyone experienced this and what ended up being a solution?
Thanks in advance for constructive input.

You have room to put a backer nut on also?
joecitizen Thanks this. -
I always use red loctite and my 3/4 impact it on. Never had an issue. Could not tell you what torque that is but she's
On there!PE_T and joecitizen Thank this. -
120 ftlbs is the correct torque. I would guess it was not properly torqued the first time. If it comes loose again, I would make sure the taper is correct between the crank shaft and gear or that the nut isn't bottoming out before the gear is tight.

Not really ... plus where this happened i was fortunate to have a local dump truck company nearby that helped me fix it. they didn't have anything of the correct size or thread anyways. so i had to deal with what i had.

the key for the keyway got buggered up because of the gear being loose. fixed that and when gear was reinstalled, we heard the gear bottom out and could not get it to go on any further. looked inside and saw how key was lined up and everything looked like that was as far as the gear was going to go.Heavyd Thanks this.

was concerned about hitting nut with impact and over torquing it due to the fact 120ftlbs was max torque per bendix.

that nut bouncing around sure made a very unsettling noise, thought i had a more major malfunction. not that this wasn't of importance
