Be pretty boring just listening to that whine of the motor for 500 miles a day or more without music to keep a Trucker entertained.

    SPAM links will be deleted.

Links to News Articles, Accidents, Etc. serve a purpose for giving credit to the publisher where the articles have originated from.

Personally i come here to relax & learn whats a happnin in the world, as far as spammers go..I can only imagine how many you would get per day if you did allow everyone to post them..it would be a total drag. as far as links related to news, IE..accidents,updated laws relating to the trucking industry, political..i see nothing wrong with that..shoot sometimes thats the only news i get in my day..its helpful to us plus entertaining!! makes for strong debates & a variety in opinions both enlightening & sometimes rediculous..but still entertaining. I dont fully understand about the links, but if we needed approval from admin to post it, why not? whats wrong w/ that? just dont do completely do away with it, i enjoy reading about alot of topics in here. I been telling my hubby all about this site on his lol hourly calls out on the road.. he cant wait to check this site out! I HOPE THE PROBS WITH THE LINKS ARE SETTLED SOON INSTEAD OF DOING AWAY WITH THEM...p.s. hopefully i made sense, lol im dead on my feet tired...Look forward to my news links tomorrow mornin!!:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I believe that helpful links to free websites should be allowed. Most SPAM links are easy to spot. There are a lot of great websites out there that are very helpful and free to everyone like the ones that I mentioned in my original post.

If you require all links to be approved by moderators then your PM inbox will be swamped and good advise posts will be delayed for moderator approval. I don't think you want that headache.

I also believe that an over-regulated forum will not thrive. People need to be able to share their experiences and connect with other people. Restrictive rules promote frustration and will drive good posters to places where they can express their opinions freely.

Here is what I propose to keep things simple:
    1) Spam is NOT allowed.
    2) Links to offensive material (like porn) NOT allowed
    3) Obvious advertising links are NOT allowed.
    4) Links to information about trucking specific products reviewed by truckers (like GPS software) are allowed once only per poster in a "product review" section of the forum.
    5) Links that provide free information ARE allowed.
    6) Links to news articles ARE allowed, and required when quoting news stories.
    7) Links to free government websites ARE allowed.
8} Links to trucker blogs, stories, news ARE allowed.
    9) Links to competing forums are NOT allowed.

Does that about cover it? It should be re-arranged to make it flow better.

    Rawlco,

I agree with you. No, we don't want over-regulation, plus its a pain on us as well to do. I think we should actually go with Rawlco's list... Mods? Agree? I'll keep this up until Sunday to let drivers who haven't got home yet see this and reply, then we go with our decision...

OR what if we STOPPED links from being clickable and force a copy & paste? That could work very well... A link would show up, but could NOT be clicked, it'd have to be copy and pasted into the browser (stopping hidden links problem, etc..)

Like: http://www.TheTruckersReport.com and users could copy it, etc.. this way users get the links, but Mods spend less time hunting out hidden links, etc... which is a serious problem.

I sugest leave the link as clickable and lift the restriction from 20 posts to five..The majorety of spammers make less the five posts and then are gone...

Something that you could do is not allow links to be hidden.

For example: If I want to link to yahoo the displayed text would be the same as the destination link.

    www.yahoo.com

The "Automatically retrieve titles from external links" option is cool but it does disguise links. If every link displayed exactly where it went the mods may not have to work as hard to check them out. You would know immediately that a link that started with www.fmcsa . . . is a government link and doesn't need checking.

Hm, problem is, we have seen that some spammers make up to 10 posts all at once via different browsers open at the same time... I think we could go down to maybe 15? or 12 at least?

That would be GREAT if I can find a way to do that...may have to hack it...I wish they could ONLY show up as you have put them, Rawlco, but there is currently no way to do that UNLESS the links are made NON-clickable and that would cut down on some "good", friendly usage of links...I do think we are getting to a good resolution we can impliment this Sun. now. Keep your ideas coming, please!

My thought is that we usualy catch the spammer and ban them before they come back, if they come back at all. So I think it can be same to drop it. I think 10 would be a good round number...

I'd prefer it to not be clickable.Just copy and paste.
I don't understand all that other tech stuff mentioned.
So i would'nt want to get into hot water, not knowing it.LOL
