I talked to my wife and I think if I get accepted I will go the roehl route. I have been backing trailers my whole life just not tractor trailers, dump trucks and short 24'-30' deck over trailers. But maryland is such a PITA about everything I don't wan to chance it.
I really need a job bad and this is what I want to do so hopefully roehl will accept me and I can get started in Jan. The only problem is a ticket I got in NY in 2006 I can't remember the speed I was over the limit and it doesn't say on my record. I have no accidents or DUI's ever but roehl told me if the ticket was >20 mph over limit I would not be accepted.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

357, That would be Chambersburg PA, I'm in Fairfield so not far from either the college or trucking school. I'm trying to get training locally if at all possible with the family situation and hopfully land a day LTL or regional job

8NBait, I would call dmv in new york to find out. All companies might fire you if they find out that you lied about a ticket. Im not saying you are lying but they will. I dont know who you are talking with at roehl but the should be able to help you out with the matter. Just dont make up a number. And dont sweat the backing thing, its easy. The longer the trailer, the easier to back And they have tricks to make it easy.

I would not lie, I asked the lady if she could check into what the speed was before we get too far along. I told her I could not remember, which I can't. Since it doesn't say on my record I thought she could find out. I don't want to hide anything and that is the only thing on my record that may disqualify me but again, I just don't know how fast I was going.
I'll tell you what happened, this is total BS but this is the story. I was travelling east on I-84 in NY had the cruise set 2-4 over the limit as I usually do and was coming up on another vehicle so I checked the mirror and saw an SUV in the left lane but was back there quite a bit. I started changing lanes while the cruise was still set and before I knew it the SUV was so close to me I could not see his bumper in my rear view mirror. I hit the gas cause I thought he was going to hit me he was so close. I got in front of the car I was passing and merged back into the right lane. The SUV pulls up beside me ,looks at me then pulls behind me and turns his lights on. Come to find out it was a state trooper that had to be doing 90-100 without his flashing lights on. He gets out and says I changed lanes without using my signal until I got halfway into my lane change. I guess I didn't push hard enough on the signal lever ( I don't click it into position unless I am making an actual turn rather just hold it down with my finger). He was very rude and was clearly breaking the law with his speed as he came up on me so fast. Anyway, he gave me a ticket for speeding and using wrong siganl which cost me $600. Since It was so far I didn't go to court and just paid the fine. I really wish I would have gone to court over this. If this ends up screwing me it would be nice to be able to tell my story of what happened but pretty sure the trucking company insurance doesn't really care how it happened. I was definately in the wrong and had I known it was a cop I would have slowed and got behind the car I was passing or just let him tailgate me until I made the pass.
I do have another question for, If I do get accepted to Roehl and get my CDL through them will I be able to switch it to MD or will I have to take another driving test here? I don't know how I can get a CDL in a state I do not live in and then transfer it to my home state but if that is how it works that would be great. MD is such a PITA anymore.
You know there are housing developments in Montgomery county where you can't smoke in your own yard for fear the smoke may drift into your neighbors yard...BS anyway, when my daughter graduates from High school in 3 years we are moving to the midwest. -
good news, my wife just found the receipt for the paid ticket and it says 82/65 which means I was only 17 over... man that had me a little worried. I am going to scan and email it to roehl so she has a record of it. That was the only thing that would disqualify me it sure is nice to know the facts.
-
8NBait, You will get a wisconson cdl and then it is a requirement to have it switched back to MD before you go out with your trainers. Like mi say , dont sweat it. The only thing that sucks is the cost. For me it was like 85 uin WI, then 3 dAYS LATER 140 IN MD. If you get hold of a modetrater you can have him e-mail me your e-mail adress and i can answer any questions you might have. What fleet do you want to run?
-
8NBait, just saw your last post. I guess thats good. tell your recruiter exactly what happened and make sure that that wont disqualify you BEFORE you go to Marshfield for school. Trucking companies can be funny.

I am going to copy and paste my explanation on the email I am about to send to Roehl. They probably don't care about my explanation since it is more than likely the insurance company that makes the decision. I think 17 over is great since they said 20 over was the cut off.
I think I want to haul National Flatbed, I have been around heavy equipment and construction my whole life and I think that would be a good fit for me but I really don't care just need to start driving. Looking forward to it, hopefully that ticket won't hurt me. Like I said no accidents and no dui or dwi ever, and never a ticket in a commercial vehicle.
thanks -
8NBait, I just talked to a buddy of mine that runs Nat. van. He said that the flat guys are still getting miles. I ran Nat. flat and never had a problem with miles or getting home. They haul freight for G.P. and del/pickup for several co. around here. A word of warning, Lowes dist. ctr will more than liokely be a load to get you home. I NEVER made it out of there in under 4 hrs.
-
that sounds good, is the lowes DS the one on wilson blvd?
they don't pay for the 4 hours waiting to get unloaded do they?
did you run 11 on and 3 off for the most part or more like 14-17 on
where did you park the truck while at home?
